Join Sophie Pavelle on a low-carbon journey around Britain in search of ten animals and habitats threatened by climate change in the 21st century.

Forget-me-not – a beautiful flower and a plea from our islands’ wildlife. When climate change has driven dozens of our most charismatic species to extinction, will they be forgotten?

Like many of her generation, Sophie Pavelle is determined to demand action on climate change. In her hilarious and thought-provoking first book, she describes the trips she took to see ten rare native species: species that could disappear by 2050 and be forgotten by the end of the century if their habitats continue to decline.

Sophie challenged herself to find them the low-carbon way, travelling the length of Britain on foot, by bicycle, in an electric car, by kayak, on ferries and in a lot of trains. From Bodmin Moor to the Orkney Islands, Sophie encountered species on the frontline of climate change in Britain. Which are going to be seriously affected, and why? Could some bounce back from the brink? Or are we too late to save them?

Forget Me Not is a clarion call: we all need to play a part in tackling this most existential of threats. Everyone can see wildlife in the British Isles without contributing to its destruction. With joyful irreverence, Sophie shows us we can dare to hope. Journey with her, and she may even inspire you to take action for nature and head out on your own low-carbon adventure.©2022 Sophie Pavelle (P)2022 Bloomsbury Publishing Plc

A cause for optimism?

A wonderful exploration of ten endangered British wildlife species. So much more than a scientific description of the wildflower and their issues, Sophie gets out there and digs deep into the problems, chasing down expertise, and recounting all in an accessible and charming manner. Maybe it helps that I have five adult children all around Sophie’s age, but I caught myself chuckling along many times. Nevertheless, the subject matter is so important throughout and that message never gets lost in the descriptions of Sophie’s many adventures, trials and tribulations.
I feel that the world will be a better and hopefully healthier place with young people like Sophie banging the drum for change - I’m just so sorry that capital greed of preceding generations has brought us to this brink.
Go Sophie, I’m anxiously waiting for the next volume! (And leaving the dandelions alone).

Fantastic

Really enjoyed this book, topic, narration, layout. Enjoyed hearing about species easily forgotten and the plight they face merely to survive. Hoping for further books from this author/ narrator

Passion , Pride and Prejudice plus more than a little hope

Passion for stopping and reversing the rot that is is enveloping the natural environment and that is now all so blindingly obvious but still so many remain in denial about.
Pride for the precious wildlife of the British Isles about which her narrative entertains and engages.
Prejudice for the ignorance, individual and corporate that just steam rollers on!
A young heart and a vitality that I know there is more to come from…… well done that girl 👌

An absolute pleasure..

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I did so whilst cycling and Sophie was my company with her engaging and friendly tone.. the words were inspirational and wise, the chat funny and sad. I now see the world differently, it really was a pleasure.

Relatable

Relatable, honest and enjoyable. A book for a generation that has to contend with our mistakes of the past. A personal journey from someone who has their eyes open to the modern issues facing us all and our precious environment, yet, with an optimistic and cheerful outlook..

Interest and intrigue, honest, frank and funny.

A really interesting look at some of the more overlooked threatened species in the UK written and delivered in the style of having a chat to your best nature-nerd mate over a pint. Great stuff.

the book to read about our nature's human battle

From the start this book was different from all others that deal with the damage done to our natural world. It bounced with beautiful skill between humour and tragedy as both a marker of what has gone wrong in our attitudes and actions to how we absolutely must no longer sit on the fence, looking for someone else to correct it.

Too many high points to list except one for me. The acknowledgements at the very end. The thanks given to a stream of experts, from Dr's, individuals, organisations and universities to family members, highlighted to me just what a wealth of knowledge goes into creating such a work...knowledge we must accept and act upon without delay.

the narration was lovely, sounded like a friend talking and although I am a fan of audible I'm off to buy a copy or two so that it will be around my home forever as book that stirred my lazy guilt and the spare as one to share around.

Well done Sophie and all involved.
