El eje del argumento es un conflicto amoroso: Fortunata, una mujer de clase baja, se enamora de Juanito Santa Cruz, un señorito burgués, que la seduce pero se casa con Jacinta, burguesa de familia rica de comerciantes. Junto a las desventuras amorosas del trío, al que se sumará Maximiliano Rubín –antítesis de Juanito y con quien se casará Fortunata–, se entretejen muchas otras historias que hacen de Fortunata y Jacinta una novela de novelas. En ella Galdós narra también los hitos históricos que configuraron la época: la revolución de 1868, el asesinato de Prim en 1870, la abdicación del rey Amadeo en 1873, el golpe militar de Pavía en 1874...

Libro estupendo

Ha sido una fortuna escucharlo. El narrador es muy bueno, pero aquí el mérito lo tiene Galdós y su compota de frutas;)
