About this listen

A small girl is sent to live with foster parents on a farm in rural Ireland, without knowing when she will return home. In the strangers' house, she finds a warmth and affection she has not known before and slowly begins to blossom in their care. And then a secret is revealed and suddenly, she realizes how fragile her idyll is.

Winner of the Davy Byrnes Memorial Prize, Foster is now published in a revised and expanded version. Beautiful, sad and eerie, it is a story of astonishing emotional depth, showcasing Claire Keegan's great accomplishment and talent.

A Child Will Go Where Love's Aflow.

A nice story. Almost akin to the story book Heidi I read as a child.

Beautiful

Deceptively simple, beautifully written, excellent narration.
A favourite of Maggie O'Farrell's I heard on the audible Graham Norton book club podcast.

really heart warming

Well it is a lovely simple, heart warming story but it was only just over an hour long which I hadn't realised until download.

Beautiful Story

This is the second book of Claire’s I have listened to, it’s just as good as the first, Small Things Like These. I can’t wait to download more. Beautifully written, straight forward and emotional. Loved it. PS a lovely Mother’s Day gift from my daughter xx

Foster is moving and real

Loved the story but would love to hear more. It was too short. What happens next? I would love to know

Beautiful simple story about goodness and love

Short book which I wanted to inhabit forever. I was introduced to Claire Keegan by Small Things Like These and I’m working my way through her beautiful back catalogue.

A heart warming story

What a fantastic book. It tells the story of a little girl that spends a short time with an older couple as a foster child. The relationship the girl and the couple build during a summer is both beautiful and heartwarming. It is not normally a book I would read but something made me pick it up and I do not regret I did. I recommend this to anyone who likes to read 😀
