Summary

When a corpse is found floating in the River Thames, the police can at least be sure that identifying the victim will be straightforward. Around the dead man's wrist is a hospital band. On it are the words 'Dr F. Klein'.

But psychotherapist Frieda Klein is very much alive. And, after evidence linking her to the murder is discovered, she becomes the prime suspect.

Win win Nicci French duo make another killing!

This is the fifth in the Frieda Klein psychological thriller series from husband and wife team Nicci French. Blue Monday, Tuesday's Gone, Waiting for Wednesday and Thursday's Child precede Friday on my Mind which can be listened to as a stand-alone although the characters are fleshier if you're already hooked on the previous four.
The winning formula is cleverly worked out once more with the Nicci French strengths: a running pace throughout; slick, now dialogue; smart, taut language; sophisticated tightly controlled narrative; constantly racked-up suspense, intrigue and danger; metropolitan characters with complex lives and secrets. ..
Here psychotherapist Frieda is suspected of murdering an ex-patient, the man she loved, after his bloated body is washed up by the Thames, and she's on the run determined to find the real culprit. Beth Chalmers as narrator does a good job in giving depth to characters and maintaining that breakneck pace.

Excellent listen

This story felt intense, I had to keep listening to the next chapter and the next chapter. I will definitely get another book by Nicci French. I thought Beth Chalmers was excellent.

First meeting with Frieda

This is my first reading of Frieda Klein. I guess this can be read as a standalone book as I have done so and I can understand what is going on.
Dr Frieda Klein is suspected of murdering her former boyfriend Sandy who was found floating in the river. Before she is arrested she goes undercover to discover who the murderer is.
I enjoyed this and would read more of Frieda Klein in the future. Its an average read and I would recommend it.

Good follow on in the series

Excellent story again. Shame about Sandy but Freda still being 'protected' by Dean. Can't wait for next book.

Good story but just a tad too much padding...

The problem with audio books is that you can't skip read when you get to long passages that add nothing to the story, just pad it out!
The story was pretty good, but I really don't need to know the entire contents of a shop she goes into, and some of the dialogue exchange between the characters was annoyingly slow. I am sure that most readers / listeners are quietly saying 'for goodness sake get on with it' !. If it was suspense the author was trying to build in by drawing out these conversations, I'm afraid she didn't succeed. If you can put up with that though, then its an easy read (listen).

Very good series

I came across these by accident and was pleased to see book 5 available after enjoying the previous 4. I did get drawn into this and found myself listening as often as I could to find out what happened. I won't give anything away with the story - if you liked the previous books then you should enjoy this one!
