Critic reviews

"A simple idea, beautifully executed, which pithily derides the blind eye that allows sexism to become endemic. Having said that... Liam is an idiot who should know his place" (Richard Herring)

Amusing & Thought Provoking.

The joke is stretched a bit thin. That being that men are put into the shoes of the women they have been prejudiced about. The major differences between men & women are not really touched upon. That being said, it is thought provoking & amusing in places.

Don't get it...

I had to give up on this book. It may be to some peoples taste and I am sure on another day I would give it another chance. If it is supposed to be ironic then the funny bits just didn't do it for me. I was just left wondering if I was supposed to be laughing. If it was supposed to be humorous it didn't work for me.

Far, far funnier in tweet form

These aphorisms come across far better in tweets where the irony really hits the spot and each point can be appreciated in isolation.

When read end to end they are unedifying, cloying and depressing.

it's a shame as the message is important and relevant.

An interesting parody

This book is set in a world where gender roles are reversed and adopts the tone of self-help books and columns in women's magazines from the 50s. It is quite witty and makes the point about gender roles and attitudes towards women in our world but it does get dreary after about an hour. It is well narrated but the style of the book is better suited to short vignettes interspersed with other items in say, a radio programme. In any case, worth listening to.

Disappointing

I didn't bother to finish this audiobook. This is more a reference to women than men surely? Or was it that I was missing the point as I did not finish it.

A 50s guide on how to be a good woman

Get any guide from the 40s or 50s on how to be a good woman, find and replace the word woman with man and viceversa. I guess some would find it funny, and in the right context some paragraphs maybe if understanding the irony…
I start listening this book while driving, and I just couldn’t wait to finish my trip to switch it off.

Just don't take it to seriously!

Shallow but funny guide, that looks like a commercial from late 50ths. You will hear some good opinions, but most of the time just funny habits of a man who has it all.

Very funny. And sharp.

An excellent satirical take on everyday sexism, feminism and self help waffle. It gently hammers home the point. Very funny. And thought provoking.
I'm off to relax now with a warm bath and scented candles. Because I'm worth it.

an interesting twist on the battle of the sexes

whilst well read and a clever concept, I can't say I enjoyed the book and quite pleased when it finished. saying that, it was cleverly written with some comedy statements.... Whilst I would not recommend, I also world not discount it based on my own experience.... it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Brilliant

This partly tongue in cheek, partly brilliant conscious raising exposure of the way women have been talked down to and abused by the patriarchy for eons. Using the spoof women’s magazine style this book will make you think and laugh at the same time. Brilliant.
