About this listen
When From the Earth to the Moon was published in 1865, it was regarded as pure fantasy. Who could imagine a rocket that would carry men and animals through space? Today, like so many of Jules Verne's prophecies, space travel is a reality. Here's a fun adventure story that shows how Verne, with foresight that is at times almost eerily accurate, envisioned a trip to the moon.

Very enjoyable story. Excellent narration
Nearly as good as Around the World story. Narration was excellent. I don’t know if the style of speed is really from that period but accepting as such, very well done.

I like Verne, but the performance was hard going
I've read From the Earth to the Moon before so the story is fine. Like all Verne this is an epic with a lot of scientific sidelines, which I like. But the narrator was so monotonous to my ears that I had to give up half way through. I felt there was little change to his rate of speech, no distinction between characters and not enough pause between sentences. Leading to the feeling of one run-on sentence. Not for me, I'll find another recording.

Funny Peculiar Book
Interesting listen, I almost felt it was like a satire on America, gun laws and general international relations.

Great story ahead of its time
Frenchman sounds Indian…. The rest sound the same. If’s not dramatised then just stick to reading.

not like the film
First time listening or reading this but have seen the film they are nothing alike like the rest of his books
I love science fiction but thus is pushing it to far to build a Canon that will fly 3 men and 2 dogs to the moon wow
There is a noise in the back ground sounds like the reader is playing pong if any of you remember the computer game from my younger days

Too much of this is just a factual list of events
So, until about half way through the story when a french guy shows up, there are basically no characters. All of the scenes of characters talking are things like 'If we use iron it will weigh X' 'if we use aluminium it will weigh Y, and it will cost Z'. For about 10 minutes it is just listing how much money they got from people in different countries to build the thing.
It's not terrible, but I feel like in a world where we have now actually travelled to the moon then if you want to know all the facts and figures and costs you would be better of reading a book about the actual moon landings. If you want a fun adventure story about going to the moon, I would recommend H.G. Wells' "The First Men in the Moon", which is a very good book, and still contains a fair amount of scientific discussion without getting caught up in facts and figures.
If this had been longer, or I hadn't been doing other things while listening, then I probably wouldn't have finished it.
