About this listen

New York Admirals captain Scott Hunter takes his pregame rituals very seriously. In this case, it's not just a lucky smoothie he's craving - it's the man who made it.

Pro hockey star Scott Hunter knows a good thing when he sees it. So, when a smoothie made by juice bar barista Kip Grady precedes Scott breaking his on-ice slump, he's desperate to recreate the magic...and to get to know the sexy, funny guy behind the counter.

Kip knew there was more to Scott's frequent visits than blended fruit, but he never let himself imagine being invited back to Scott's penthouse. Or kissed with reckless abandon, never mind touched everywhere all at once. When it happens, it's red-hot, incredible, and frequent, but also only on Scott's terms and always behind his closed apartment doors.

Scott needs Kip in his life, but with playoff season approaching, the spotlight on him is suddenly brighter than ever. He can't afford to do anything that might derail his career...like introducing the world to his boyfriend. Kip is ready to go all-in with Scott - but how much longer will he have to remain a secret?

An emotional coming-out.

So this was a little tricky for me. I enjoyed the story on this one but didn’t love the audio. I’m sure there are plenty of Tor Thom fans out there but he’s just not for me, which is okay, everyone likes different things.

This story is an MM hockey romance about the captain of the team who is firmly in the back of the closet. After a chance meeting with a smoothie maker, he’s smitten but feels the pressure to keep his private life completely secret. We go through all the emotions in this one. The guilt he feels for keeping secrets, the love he has for his new partner, the frustration of the new boyfriend at being forced back in the closet, the pressure of keeping up appearances as an elite athlete, the financial disparity between the multi-million dollar contracts he signs and a smoothie maker’s wage. It’s all there and it will get you in your feels.

The spice is delicious too. Rachel can write a scene!

So if Tor Thom is one of your go-to narrators, this is the audio for you. If he isn’t then I would download the book and eyeball read. The story is definitely worth reading and I will for sure continue with more in this series.

Good story, meh narrator

I loved the story, and I think the narrator is better here than in Heated Rivalry, but still not great.

Ruined by the narrator

Omfg this narrator (Thor Tom) is absolutely awful. The accent he decided to do for one of the two MCs is risible. Made it almost impossible to listen to. And this is not the first book he ruins…how just HOW does he still get narration jobs?

Great story shame about the narration

I’ll preface this by saying I read the book before I started listening to the audio. The story is great, in fact I devoured the entire series. But the audio for this book, and presumably the others, just doesn’t work for me. It’s not at all how my head imagined the characters to sound. Accent choices and pitch of tone are so off. Still a great story though.

Annoying narrator

I’ve read this book several times and I love it. But the narrator ruined the audio book for me. He makes a lot of different voices and especially the voice for Kip is really weird.
It’s the same narrator for the other books in the series so I’ll have to stick with the ebooks, unfortunately

The story is sweet but the narrator is awful!!!

Literally totally ruined by the narration, the stupid accent he did for Kip was unbearable. I really wanted to find out what happens at the end but almost gave up because it was so ruined.

Narrator

Some of the reviews are harsh, the narrator was awesome for scott but his odd accent for kip… it was a struggle and i found myself overlaying the voice in my head.
Amazing book and i still rate the narrator but maybe a different guy for kips voice?

This was a beautiful and captivating love story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the characters. Loved the writing and the HEA was delightful.

good story bug struggled a little with narration.

I did struggle with the voices for the main characters at the beginning, probably a preconceived idea of what each should sound like which is on me, but the story and emotions of story is really good.

Urgh the narrator ruins this great story

I should have listened to the others who said this rather than hoping it would be fine - I read this electronically first and loved it, and thought I'd add the audiobook to my library but I've been hugely disappointed. I've pushed through half of it but can't bring myself to finish it since the narrator's voice for Kip is so off-putting. I can see he's trying to do a regional accent but he's somehow made the character sound dense, which is not true to the story. His voice for Scott is fine though! So frustrating, and sadly that means no Heated Rivalry for me either, unless they re-release it with Cooper North (who does the sequel) at some point. What a shame.
