Story
Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. Havoc is handsome, mysterious, and somehow, my closest companion, even if we don’t always get along.

Story
My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Story
After half a century of chaos, my retirement from leading the Community of Species Government has been bliss. No more hellhounds playing pranks. No more snippy demons demanding my attention. No more cajoling money from the wealthy to support the community. Just peace while I avoid my overbearing father and try to work out my next steps. Although...maybe three years of peace is enough. It might even be starting to get boring. In fact, an adolescent dragon crash-landing on my landlord's shed is just the kind of excitement I need - especially when he brings his species leader to my door.

Story
Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words, and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not.

Story
Some people are born lucky. Then there’s me, destined to be loved by the man who knows my darkest secret. My gift has followed me my entire life—the ability to see the threads of fate. I can see the red thread tying together two people destined to love one another. But my gift has another side to it. A darker side. I can also see a simple black thread tied to the fingers of those who aren’t aware of it, connecting them to the person destined to kill them. And when I look down at my own finger, I can see the red thread stretched over to Bishop King.

From that point on, it was all over for me - I knew we were meant to be. The issue is that he doesn’t…quite seem to realize that. “You are the savior of mankind” are the last words I ever expected to hear while nibbling on fries. The thing is, I’m not mankind saving material. I don’t even have magic (and just found out it exists). I’m the most boring, normal(ish) human ever. Suddenly, I’m being tossed right into the middle of a fight that started years before I was even born, and then I get partnered up with Alastair, a quirky magical Guardian. He is rather attractive and sweet when he’s not into the whole “woe is me, I can’t let myself fall in love with you” nonsense.

Ari had a game plan for life: shoot people. Get money. Hang out with fellow criminal friends. He saw absolutely no reason to change that plan until one dark night in Memphis, when a little girl reached out to him with pocket change and a desperate plea for him to help her. Adopting an abused little girl off the streets was, needless to say, not part of the plan. Ari had no idea what he was doing with an eight year old. Summary
Hiro
When I first realized that I could see the dead, I never imagined that it would allow me to help save the lives of others, or pull me into Detective Maddox Booker’s path. Through my ability, ghosts have become some of my greatest friends and allies.
But now, someone’s dead, and his ghost is gone. Ghosts have sought my help for my entire life, wanting to be heard. Now, something is keeping them quiet, almost hostile. as our search for the ghost of the dead man leads us to a small village. Even though everything looks normal on the outside, I’m starting to wonder what’s happening on the inside.
Maddox
Life is better than it’s ever been. Hiro’s by my side, and has brought my best friend Reggie back into my life - if we can consider Reggie’s harassment (even as a ghost) a positive. And even Hiro’s horde of ghosts won’t keep me from asking him to move in with me. The only issue is that, work is never quiet, especially when Hiro is able to dive into a whole new side of a case by speaking to the victims of the dead.
But, when someone takes Hiro from me in the middle of the night, I know that I will do absolutely anything to get him back, and I will make them pay for what they’ve done.
Ghost of Truth is full of action, mystery, humor, and romance. Though more is planned for this couple, the mystery is solved - and there is a happy ending.

Loved this book!!
I truly enjoyed this book. The story was very interesting, there were twists and turns along the way and the humour had me laughing out loud. The narrator was also great. Not only did he do a great job with the various characters but the inflection of the lines made them sound as they should, i.e. humourous, sad, etc. I would love to read more books in this series.

...And I Still Can't Wait For More
This book basically picks up where the first one leaves off, but now pretty much all the local cops, paramedics, and forensic teams know about Hiro's gift, and the list just keeps getting longer. With Hiro's abilities evolving, warring ghosslings, and a new dick detective added to the mix, the stakes have been raised from the first book.
In book two Hiro starts to bite back against the people whole sneer at him and his ability to converse with ghosts. Hiro might be scared about what those outcomes are, but I enjoyed it. Hiro's character keeps getting better and better. Maddox... well, the perverted ghosts and their antics rubbed off on him a little too much? Or not, depending on who is reading it. He seemed to make smarter choices in the first book.
All I know for sure is that this is the first series I actually liked reading from both mc viewpoints (I tend to get attached to the main mc in everything I read and skim any other POVs).
Reggie steals the show throughout the whole book, but I like his character, so that's fine. Still, I love all the characters and their sass and grumpiness, love the story, and love that there's no angst driven by stupid decisions or misunderstandings (though there were a couple questionable choices that thankfully didn't lead to any worse situations). Although I liked the first book a more, because it's more cozy murder mystery solving and this book feels more action movie with the antagonist monologuing most of the events, but I enjoyed both. And hopefully things are just getting started! I really hope Hiro and Maddox's series keeps going for many more books (with those two as the main characters). I'll be sure to preorder if or when it does.
Shout out to Greg Boudreaux - prefect reading as always. He's always able to take a book and bump it up a notch.

mixed bag for me
Story: 2.75⭐️
Audio: 4.25⭐️
There was more for me to like on the character side as I find Hiro and Maddox much more enjoyable as an established couple and it's interesting to see their continued partnership as well as how they navigate Hiro's gift and Reggie's presence. However, the element I found that worked best in the first book, the mystery, let me down in this one. Not the idea necessarily but it's execution and the "explanation" of its elements are kind of a mess. It doesn't help that although Hiro can speak to/interact with ghosts, not even he can apparently add 2+2 when it comes to theories about what is going on bc of some 'it doesn't happen in real life' BS...in the book about ghosts being real.

Good story. Good narration.
Just when things are starting to calm down for Hiro and Maddox, a new case invades their personal life in a dangerous way. As with all Alice Winters books, the proceeding adventure is filled improbable situations that teach the main characters a few things about themselves and their partner. Greg Boudreaux's performance was a worthy addition to this action packed romance.

don't judge a book by its cover
This book series has stupid titles and dumb covers and going into the first one, i thought it'd be cheesy and cringey and worth nothing more than brief entertainment. I am quite pleased to say I was wrong. I listened to the first one within 2 days and immediately got this one. The performance is great, the humor while crude never failed to make me laugh or roll my eyes (in a good way!), and the story was fun and inventive while still leaning into well-worn tropes and murder mystery elements. I was genuinely on the edge of my seat during the (mild spoiler though it's implied in the summary) kidnapping scene and felt my heart race during the climax. I'll definitely return to this book series with much enthusiasm and recommend it to anyone who will listen because it deserves to be big.

More snark and murder
Such a fun read! I literally laughed out loud through most of this entertaining book. Hero and Maddox continue to be haunted in the best way possible while stumbling to find physical evidence of the crimes ghosts point out. What is happening in a quiet village, and why are there competing ghostly factions vying for Hero to listen to them? Bless Hero and Maddox for putting up with all the shenanigans that surround them.

Another intense thrill ride as Hiro and Maddox get involved in another case. This one had so many twists and turns, I honestly still don't really understand it all, haha! It was interesting how some of the story tied in with Reggie. Loved the banter and craziness between Hiro, Maddox, and their ghost friends. Greg Boudreaux is definitely a master of narration.
