Summary

For the first time in a beautiful new edition, this omnibus will collect together the original official novelizations of both Ghostbusters 1 and 2.

Relive the classic Ghostbusters stories with the original movie novelizations republished for the first time since 1980s.

When Dr. Peter Venkman and his Columbia University colleagues are kicked out of their prestigious academic posts, they start a private practice as professional ghost-catchers. Although things do not start auspiciously for the three parascientists, their television advertisements finally pay off when beautiful Dana Barrett contracts them. It seems her apartment has become the entryway for ghastly ghosts and goofy ghouls hellbent on terrorizing New York City. Soon, they’re not just going to her rescue, but trying to rid the whole city of the slimy creatures.

After waging a war on slime that cost New York City millions, the Ghostbusters find themselves out of business until an ancient tyrant, preparing a return to the Earthly domain through his portrait at the Manhattan Museum of Modern Art, sets his sights on Dana Barrett’s baby as the new home for his wicked soul!

Better than the Reboot

A decent job of bringing the novels to life though I did find the narrator a bit boring at times, likely because I've seen both Ghostbusters movies enough times I only ever hear the principle casts' voices; especially Bill Murrays' deadpan and sarcastic delivery.

3.5* - Enjoyable, but part 2 let's it down.

As a huge fan of Ghostbusters 1 and 2 (I can hear people yelling about 2 not being anywhere near as good. It isn't but I still love it!),I was I retested to see how it would be put in novel form. For the first film, it works really well. I was concerned about the narration as he didn't seem to have much range - although his Louis is very good. Actually, it didn't matter that much. He changed his voice just enough for it not to be monotone and better still, didn't overdo it to the point it becomes too distracting and ruins the whole thing.
It follows the story of the film well and it flows nicely. It's a great addition to my collection.
Now for part 2....
The beginning part of the second film adaptation starts well. Like 1, it follows the film (including Peter squeezing Rays ears!)and flows well. Then for some reason, it just starts to feel rushed and chunks are left out. The last few chapters are really short and seem like an afterthought. Considering it's the climax of the story, it just fell flat. I was disappointed with this but as the part 1 is enjoyable, it'll stay in my library and probably get listened to quite often!

Adds a lot to the original classics.....

...but thank you Audible for the playback speed change. had to listen to the first one at 0.95x as it's too fast but then to match that the second one was at 1.25x because it was too slow.

The books add a lot of personal character development and the humour and dialogue is very similar across both stories unlike the films.

Definitely recommend it as a freebie, would have been annoying to have paid for it.

Love Ghostbusters

if you love Ghostbusters or not this is a good listen. I do thing fans get more out of it because there are weak points in storytelling where gaps are filled with prior knowledge but still a good time easy listening.

Ok if you like a audible description of the movie

Not much to add from the movie. It was like someone reading the script. (Albeit a fantastic classic of a movie)

Slightly different from the movies

So it’s basically a retelling of the movies but with slight differences. For that reason it’s not too in-depth which makes it an easy listen. The only thing I didn’t like was that in GB2 they left out the railway line scene with the heads on spikes and ghost train- that was my favourite scene in the movie! Oh well.

Classic stories, poor performance

The stories themselves are great, though a little different to what one might remember from the movies as they were based on early drafts of the scripts.

The performance, however, is not so great. Johnny Heller rattles through them as though he were in a hurry to beat the traffic, which really detracts from the experience.

Some extra fun details.

It's like having an extended version of the films go through your head. Comic timing and line delivery is all missing though, so it's kind of flat and not very funny.
