About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

For anyone who has thought that being thinner would make them happier, this book is for you.
In 2017, Alice Liveing, known as Clean Eating Alice, was the UK’s leading personal trainer, she had over half a million followers on Instagram, counted celebrities amongst her clients, appeared on the cover of Women’s Health, and even achieved her third Sunday Times bestseller. She had everything she had ever dreamed of, and more, because as she was recognised as the embodiment of health, but that was the furthest thing from the truth.
Now, having faced a sustained period of disordered eating and exercise addiction that had controlled her life for so long, Alice tells the intimate story of what led to her darkest moments of restriction, the ultimatum that forced her to change, and how she overcame those demons to find true health, happiness and find peace with her body.
Part-memoir, part-manifesto, Alice reveals how we can all move in a way that prioritises how we feel over how we look using her four pillars of fitness: Why, What, When and How. Give Me Strength is a vital, powerful and life-affirming book for any woman who has ever struggled to love their body.

Fab!

I have followed Alice for many years - even taking part in one of her workouts, at a fitness event, in London. This was a very honest account of what was really happening, during those times. Great tips given too.

Intrigued and relieved

Have been following Alice on and off for few years, not getting too fussy about the content, observing PT influencer’s life, methods, and in general tired of americanised market, enjoy Alice’s way.
The book, especially first part, was like a fresh air in social media influencers life; the honesty and openess she has declared made me respect her more and can find more meaning in her work. Got few ‘aha’ moments and found where I behave toxic within myself. Even felt inspired to be more honest with myself.
Got a bit bored on second part as it was not why I listened to it.
Really happy to see such book available and recommend to just enjoy. Listened within one day as a good long podcast.

Honest and yet inspirational

Honesty, reflection and accountability is the theme of Part 1. Part 2 is excellent for anyone looking to start a programme of structured exercise or intentional movement. It is broken down into helpful sections, uses lay language to help explain the scientific terminology/acronyms and is supported by the research evidence.

Great first half

Loved the first half. Very emotional and honest and I think it's amazing that she's owning her part in contributing to diet culture with her first two books and social media presence. I love what she stands for and how she wants to support women however it felt quite self indulgent and repetitive as it went into the second half and I feel like changing women's perception of exercise isn't always so straightforward or a one size fits all. Would have also appreciated more inclusive language - mentions impressing the opposite sex as part of our societal conditioning - sure but women who are bi, gay and pan still experience the pressure to be small and look good.
