About this listen
I can tell when you’re lying. Every. Single. Time.
I’m Jinx. As a private investigator, being a walking, talking lie detector is a useful skill - but let’s face it, it’s not normal. You’d think it would make my job way too easy, but even with my weird skills, I still haven’t been able to track down my parents' killers.
When I’m hired to find a missing university student, I hope to find her propped up at a bar - yet my gut tells me there’s more to this case than a party girl gone wild. Firstly, she’s a bookish soul who’s as likely to go off the rails as Mother Theresa. Secondly, I’m not the only one on her trail; she’s also being tracked by the implacable and oh-so-sexy Inspector Stone.
Stone and I team up, and he shoves me into a realm where magic is real – a place where there are vampires and werewolves, dragons and trolls. And where my skills are more than just detecting lies…
Oh, and my dog? He’s a freaking hellhound who can manipulate the magical realms themselves.
I need to find the girl. I need to discover who killed my parents. And I need to find out more about the attractive but mysterious Zachary Stone…

Exciting and compelling debut
Five years earlier, Jessica ‘Jinx’ Sharp lost her parents following a brutal home invasion. Since then she’s been working as security expert, PI and occasional object retriever along with her trusty Great Dane, Gato. The fact that she has a heightened sense of intuition means that she can tell when someone is lying - a feat that comes in handy in her job as a private investigator.
When Hester Sorrell, a university student suddenly goes missing, Jinx finds herself teaming up with the mysterious Inspector Zachary Stone to find her. It soon becomes apparent that there’s more to Hester’s disappearance than meets the eye when Jinx finds herself careening into a co-existing magical realm in which not only vampires, werewolves, trolls and dragons exist but her beloved dog is a hellhound..
Glimmer of the Other is the first engaging instalment of the highly entertaining Other World Series. I was anxious to get my hands on this book after reading the tantalising prequel, Glimmer of Dragons. Once again, the author drew me in effortlessly with her intrically woven plot and intriguing characters.
Told from the perspective of the main protagonist, the plot revolves around Jinx, a private investigator with a knack for determining when someone is telling lies. A seemingly routine case leads to her inadvertently discovering the truth about herself - she's a wizard with strong truth-seeking skills and a natural empath with the ability to compel/manipulate others against their will. Truth seekers are seen as handy tools and often enslaved due to their abilities. It's for this reason that her parents (prior to their death) had warned her to stay under the radar - something she had always managed to do until now. Several intriguing revelations come to light regarding Jinx's parents as well as their mysterious deaths which were merely touched upon in the prequel. I'm looking forward to seeing how this will play out in the next instalment.
Jinx herself, is a resilient, appealing, funny and feisty protagonist who readers will instantly connect with. Equally endearing is her trusty sidekick Gato, whose human mannerisms steal many a scene. The secondary characters were also compelling and added depth and layers to the author’s world.
This was by no means a light read. The world-building has been phenomenal throughout, making it apparent that a lot of thought has been put in. For example we have three realms - the Common Realm (normal world) the Other Realm (which is full of magical beings) and the Third Realm (a realm in which time can be manipulated through time travel) All supernatural beings adhere to The Verdict, a binding geas with strict rules and regulations which are enforced by the Connection. Those with the ability to travel between each realm are identified by the number of triangles tattooed on their forehead when they are in the Other. Those with three triangles are higher up the classification with the Connection. Each faction of supernatural beings has a representative within each symposium and in the Unity. They maintain the balance between the realms and ensure the Other remains hidden from the Common.
Magical beings are capable of being in the Other realm all the time. Others (such as witches, wizards, vampires, werewolves and seers) must leave the Other to recharge in the Common. When it's time to recharge, their skin begins to itch. If they fail to leave voluntarily, they are expelled by the Other which can be painful. Jinx is luckier than most in that she is bonded to a hell hound, a rare and sought after creature of the Other, who can go between realms without using a portal.
This has been a thrilling ride from start to finish and I was sorry to see it end. This series is a must read for any paranormal enthusiast. Now the painful wait until the next book...
Highly recommended for fans of urban fantasy, magical realms, wizards, vampires, werewolves, trolls, mermaids, dryads, seers, daemons, hellhounds, secret societies and mysteries etc

Love Jinx and Gato
Having just finished and enjoyed this series on ebook, I decided to go back to the beginning where it all began and listen to the audio, mainly to look for the hidden clues to later events that I missed first time around. Totally worth it! Love this series, loved spotting the bits I missed and full credit to the narrator, who does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life!

Great Writer and Narrator
If you're looking for a light urban fantasy read that doesn't sacrifice plot or characters, this is the one for you. On top of that, the narrator is brilliant. She has a really good range and a relaxing voice.

A fantastic story
Wow, a real cracker of a story, inventive, entertaining and involving. Jinx is a PI who can hear lies, any lies. What starts as a job looking for a missing teenager, leads her to her origins and a world of the supernatural and legendary. Dragons, Vampires, werewolves and countless other legendary creatures. I loved Jinx a sassy, smart mouthed heroine with her pet hellhound. I enjoyed the relationship between her and Stone the Investigator. The author has created a very inventive and original story. I liked the fact that t is set in England for a change. The narration is super, with a easy to listen to voice that makes the story flow. I listened in one sitting and was totally engrossed in the story and was sad when it ended. I hope the rest of the series is out soon. Urban fantasy is its best.
