About this listen
Good-bye, Orchid asks, "Can love blossom after life changes in an instant?"
One July morning in Manhattan, handsome athlete and CEO Phoenix Walker accompanies his love, half-Asian beauty Orchid Paige, to the airport. Neither believes today is good-bye.
But soon after Orchid leaves, disaster strikes.
Phoenix wakes in the hospital, broken, forever changed.
Now, he’s faced with the hardest decision of his life. Does he burden the woman whose traumatic childhood makes him feel protective of her? Or does true love mean having to say good-bye, Orchid?
Rising from ashes is hard. Leaving the one you love is harder.
For fans of Me Before You and The Fault in Our Stars, Goodbye, Orchid asks: “What choice does a wounded hero have when loving his woman means breaking his own heart?”

beautiful story to encourage strenght
i loved it, but the beginning felt a bit rushed.. I wish the initial love story was developed more, as, as it is now, once the accident happens, it feels like the book is more about not giving up in life and learning to accept yourself through hard times than a romance. but the last chapters made it. everything was well developed there and it all made sense. I loved that the author did the narration, it's like a songwriter singing his own songs, the best emotions come out. I loved the characters, all of them. well written and certainly a motivational and inspiring story. beautiful.

Communication is Key
I've often found that most relationships don't last because characters are not honest with each other. This is so very true with this book as well. It starts at the airport when Orchid can't tell Phoenix how she feels about him before she leaves. Then when Phoenix is hurt, he makes assumptions about Orchid and doesn't tell her he was hurt. She makes assumptions while she's gone as to why he hasn't been in touch with her. Then Phoenix makes more assumptions just by a look on her face even though the reader/listener knows she's appalled by the woman he's with and not by his wounds because she still doesn't know. Even his family judged her by what he told them about his assumptions because of her past. Maybe things would have been different if they were honest with each other. As in the end, they decided a long could try a long distance relationship as Orchid had accepted a job in Japan because she felt she had nothing left here for her. I found this book to be sad but absolutely realistic because most times couples aren't truly honest with each other. You never know what could happen.
This was the first time I've listened to a book where the author narrated their own work. I was skeptical at first but I actually enjoyed it and understand why. She did perfectly.

love
I enjoyed the narration of Carol Van Den Hende
This book is a story of love and loss, about finding the strength and courage, full of suspense, keeping you on the edge of your seat .
Orchid and Phoenix were working and had a relationship together . She had to leave for a work trip to China. Then their entire world changes. The emotions this story takes you through . Loved

Cannot recommend this highly enough
So this is not my usual genre, but this is so well written and researched. It is so empathically written and really explains what all the characters are going through after a major accident, not just from Phoenix's side. I was just engrossed and once I started listening I really couldn't stop and just kept listening to say how it all played out. In the end I was gutted that it had ended as I still wanted to keep going with their journey; it did resolve all issues though so good ending - I am just being selfish.
At the start I struggled a little with the narration but that went over and after a little while it all worked.
I was given a free copy by the author and narrator but the review is entirely my own.

Emotional rollercoaster
Wow. This book is wonderful. With fantastic strong characters it shows you how we can pull at all our reserves and conquer anything. The characters are written very well with so much emotion it’s beautiful to listen to. A good performance from the Author Carol.
