Story
Read by a cast of award-winning narrators, this collection contains some of the most timeless and enchanting folk and fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm. The Brothers Grimm collected the original fairy tales that Americans are most familiar with today. Lyrically translated and beautifully narrated by an all-star cast, these 21 tales are selected from The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales and presented just as Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm originally set them down: bold, primal, just frightening enough, and endlessly engaging.

Story
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

Jason, who is so attractive that women fall instantly in love with him, sets sail in the Argo, along with the greatest heroes of ancient Greece, including the surly (and often drunk) Hercules, the enchanting musician Orpheus and the warring twins Castor and Pollux. Editor reviews
Joanna Daniel performs this collection of 25 of the greatest fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm. Translator Margaret Hunt is credited with bringing German folklore to the attention of English-speaking children, but in this audiobook, Joanna Daniel gets all the credit for a charming performance that adults will appreciate as much as their offspring. Tom Thumb, Snow White, Cinderella, and the Frog Prince all make appearances here, as well as some lesser-known characters like Dummling, Catherine and Frederick, and Mother Holle. All of them are both rendered delicately and enlivened by Daniel's winsome English accent.
Summary
A collection of classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales, culled from Margaret Hunt's 1884 translation. The complete list of tales recounted here is: "The Goose-Girl", "The Little Brother and Little Sister", "Hansel and Gretel", "Oh, If I Could but Shiver!", "Dummling and the Three Feathers", "Little Snow-White", "Frederick and Catherine", "The Valiant Little Tailor", "Little Red-Cap", "The Golden Goose", "Bearskin", "Cinderella", "Faithful John", "The Water of Life", "Thumbling", "Briar Rose", "The Six Swans", "Rapunzel", "Mother Holle", "The Frog Prince", "The Travels of Tom Thumb", "Snow White and Rose Red", "The Three Little Men in the Wood", "Rumpelstiltskin", and "Little One-Eye, Two-Eyes, and Three-Eyes".

A sweet reminisce of stories from my childhood
This audiobook contains a collection of the Brothers Grimm’s extensive collection of stories which included Tom Thumb, Cinderella and Snow White.
While very sweet to listen and reminisce I found many of the tales sounded very alike and similar themes emerged within many of the stories. From listening using adult ears and knowledge I can hear that they are old fashioned with dated ideas; for example there is a clear masochism which runs through many stories. These are things I would not have picked up on as a child.
The narration of the book was good, Joanna Daniel sounded like various readers from Jackanory, with just the right amount of condensation and jolliness which will engage a child while not alienating.
Overall these are sweet bite size stories which are the right amount for children with limited attention spans.

Just not how I remembered them
Somehow I remained unengaged. Not sure if was just nostalgia that made me purchase or that I preferred the memories of these stories. Read well but by the middle of the second story, my mind wandered and I knew it was time to stop. Best to keep our memories perhaps!

Just saying you may want to listen to the stories first before playing them for your kids. Violence abounds in these stories, though the lessons are still applicable. It's still fun to see how much the original stories differ from the modern versions.
