About this listen
The Red Bull X-Alps is the world's most extreme race. With only a paraglider and a pair of hiking boots athletes attempt to cross the Alps from Salzburg in Austria to Monaco. In this book, British athlete Jon Chambers brings you even closer to the action and reveals his personal story of his 2011 race. In doing so he reveals the harsh reality of what it takes to compete in this uniquely demanding challenge: the physical and mental hardship, equipment, extreme conditions, strategic thinking and lucky escapes.

Absolutely fantastic
I listened to this book in its entirety today the perfect day for it as tomorrow is the start of the Red Bull X-Alps race itself for 2023. I have been flying paragliders myself for a couple of years now and watched my first one in 2021 not really knowing much about it yet. I’d been looking forward to this year’s race and just yesterday marked the end of the prologue, a kind of mini race before the big event. It’s an amazing race the X-Alps, really, but I didn’t realize just how much went into the preparation to get these men and women athletes ready for this it’s incredible. Then with this book being able to hear firsthand the drama that one of the athletes and his family actually went through when he competed makes watching the race that’s starting tomorrow all the more interesting. Thanks to the author for telling the tale and the narrator for doing such a great job putting it forward. It was wonderful to listen to.
