Summary

Stephen Fry brings the richness of these magical stories to life in the original British recordings.

'There is a plot, Harry Potter. A plot to make most terrible things happen at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this year.'

Treat your ears to a performance so rich and captivating you'll imagine yourself in the halls of Hogwarts. Wherever you listen, the unmistakable voice of Stephen Fry is guaranteed to guide you ever more deeply into this magical story and transport you to the heart of the adventure.

Harry Potter's summer has included the worst birthday ever, doomy warnings from a house-elf called Dobby, and rescue from the Dursleys by his friend Ron Weasley in a magical flying car! Back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his second year, Harry hears strange whispers echo through empty corridors - and then the attacks start. Students are found as though turned to stone... Dobby's sinister predictions seem to be coming true.

Theme music composed by James Hannigan

Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

A Delight!

Travelling through these books now in audio format is to revisit some of the finest story-telling that I personally have ever come across. I don't think many would claim that J K Rowling explored brand new ground to stretch the fantasy / sci-fi genres into new areas. What she did do though is take fantasy and shape it into a fantastic set of stories that genuinely people of all ages could enjoy. She opened up the genre in a way not seen since The Lord of the Rings.

When you marry that to the near sublime narration from Stephen Fry you end up with something that when taken in its own terms is as near perfect an audiobook as I have had the pleasure to listen to.

For those of us who's only recent experience of Harry Potter has been the excellent films there is also the occasional hidden please of scenes that never made it to the films such as the "Deathday" Party.

Right, I'm off to chase the Prisoner of Azkaban now!

Brilliant! Perfectly Narrated by Stephan Fry

Where does Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Book 2 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is already one of the best audiobooks I've listened to, I have the first Harry Potter book on CD's but this is so much easier to listen to without having to change the CD over.

What did you like best about this story?

The best thing about the Chamber Of Secrets is Dobby and the way Stephan Fry reads the story, changing his voice for each character.

Have you listened to any of Stephen Fry’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have listened to the Philosophers Stone - read by Stephan Fry but again they were CD's and I needed to change them every so often. They are both really well read and something I will want to listen to again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes definitely! Sadly i couldn't but i'm glad I could bookmark where I was listening.

Any additional comments?

I would definitely recommend Audible and the Harry Potter series

Better every time to read / hear it

Listening to these books again, having read the whole series once, definitely adds another dimension to the story. The clues and hints to later storylines that JK Rowling puts in the early books are so clever - I’ve been reading these books since the age of 7 or 8, and they never get boring!
