Written and performed by London-based actor and poet Jade Anouka (His Dark Materials), Heart introduces us to a woman who finds herself married and divorced at age 28. As she begins the process of piecing her life together, she confronts the insecurities and self-imposed boundaries that have always held her back. In the process, she discovers love in the last place—and with the last person—she expected. Directed by Ola Ince, this world premiere production—dedicated to the misfits and 'others'—takes the listeners on a powerful and relatable journey, one that demonstrates that remarkable things can happen when we follow our instincts and boldly take a chance.

This has by far been the best performed Audiobook I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I would have given it a 10 out of 5! Ms Anouka wasn't just narrating a story she was a one woman dramatic powerhouse ensemble. The vocal range was phenomenal from the conspiratorial giggly whisper to her firey anger.

The story is rich. It takes us through one woman's journey to finding love. It is deeply introspective. The main character goes through a period of maturing and painful self discovery. It deconstructs and unwinds our social and religious programming and exposes its divisiveness. I'm grateful to the author for curing my curiosity. Until now I had not understood people who live their whole lives as heterosexual then "suddenly become gay". She broaches this prickly pear with sensitivity, wit and raw honesty. I genuinely feel I understand now.

I am only sad that it's has taken me till 2023 to discover the gem 💎 that is Jade Anouka. I will definitely be looking out for more of her work!

Second time listening to this. Hats off to the author and narrator. This title is worth 4 stars in my book. Enjoyed it a lot better this time round. Definetely worth a listen.

I almost skipped this audiobook as it was so short and I didn’t think much can be said or down in such a confined space and timeframe. Even more so as it was to be at least a part of the authors story.

I was determined though to listen to it as I had enjoyed the author as a narrator of another book tremendously.

And it was the best decision, there was more to a story, a life and a love in this short story than in many books of 15 hours to learn and develop and get to like and love it.

The short introduction was already enough to get hooked and the story never disappointed. It was fierce and vulnerable, mesmerising and engaging, a story of all emotions and a rollercoaster of turmoil and hope and so much food for thought and emotions to revel in and as much suspense as any psychological thriller.

The author is not only a brilliant narrator and actor but also a very good writer, which is even more difficult if a story is a part of your own story and your own feelings. I enjoyed especially the parts where the words used hit every nerve and still sang with poetry and love.

It’s much more than a story of love and life though, there is a clear message for the reader/listener as well to feel with the the story, to engage with the message and to build on it with hope and conviction.

Keep going Jade, you have an exceptional talent and a voice and message to be heard. You definitely touched my heart and soul and had me wondering and doubting and frowning but even more so laughing and dreading and crossing my fingers and hoping for the change I was hoping for. As always in life it’s a long way and sometimes soul crushing but your inner beast has not managed to destroy your outlook on life and love so just kick it’s butt when it dares to raise its head and show it who is the boss lady.
