Summary
When Heidi, a lively orphan girl, goes to live with her grandfather in a little hut high in the Alps, she soon learns to live in perfect harmony with her surroundings, leading a carefree life with her constant companion, Peter, a young goatherd.
But her happiness is short-lived when she is sent to stay with a rich city family as a companion for the sick Clara. Although she becomes fond of the older girl, Heidi is terribly homesick. Will she ever be able to return to the Alps and the happiness she once knew with her friends?
Johanna Spyri's touching story of the adventures of a young Swiss girl is one of the most popular children's stories ever written. Heidi's pleasure in the beauty of the Swiss mountains and her rich relationships with her friends and family are perfectly evoked in this warm and lively dramatisation.

Lovely story...Love the voices...but too short!
My daughter and I have been using our credits for the longest books/collections we can find that are appropriate for a 10 year old. So, I'm not sure how I missed it, but this is only about 2 hours long. Boohoo. My bad. I'm mad at myself for not noticing it was the short version of the story. I never read this as a child and thought it would be nice to listen to it together. It was over too quick. But as far as the voices, acting, and sound effects...it was a great little story. I guess it's just the highlights. I still recommend this style of dramatized audio books...but I prefer to get more for my 'money.'

Heidi - A delightful enactment
This was a delightful presentation of a beloved classic. I enjoyed every minute of it! The voices of the actors and their performances were outstanding. I gave four stars for the story only because I wish there was more of it. It is one of my all-time favorite stories and it was wonderful to hear it brought to life so beautifully and realistically.

Pros and Cons
My kids (4 and 7) loved this as an introduction to Heidi. It was enjoyable to listen to and covered the important parts of the story.
Cons for me was that it was quite significantly abridged, and also the sound quality. Everything was great except Heidi's voice which was so quiet compared to the other voices, it was difficult to hear at times.
Overall a great introduction as long as you know it's just that. A dramatized abridged version of the classic. I can't wait to read the "real" one with them when they're ready, but they did truly love listening to this.
