Summary
Der Sohn eines wohlhabenden Ehepaars verliebt sich in eine junge Frau, die ohne unmittelbare Angehörige in einem Flüchtlingstreck an seiner Heimatstadt vorbeizieht. Er möchte sie auf der Stelle heiraten, aber wegen des anfänglichen Widerstands seines Vaters, der die Höhe der Mitgift in den Vordergrund stellt, ziehen zwei Freunde des Hauses - ein Pfarrer und ein Apotheker - im Flüchtlingslager zunächst Erkundigungen über das angebetete Mädchen ein. Die Auskünfte sind sehr positiv, denn die Ausgeforschte hat u.a. junge Mädchen heldenhaft vor einer drohenden Vergewaltigung geschützt und verfügt zudem über ansehnliche körperliche Vorzüge.
