About this listen
When the engine of a 737 tears itself apart at Los Angeles Airport, Tom Patrick is in the wrong place at the wrong time – playing poker at a nearby casino. He's been losing at cards and probing pipeline leaks ever since his big mouth led to his fall from grace as the National Transportation Safety Board's top air-crash investigator. Sidelined by the official investigation, Tom starts to dig anyway. And when another 737 crashes, it's clear that something could be terribly wrong with the world's most popular passenger jet.
Risking everything, Tom Patrick sets out on a global paperchase, racing against time and ruthless killers – before planes and people start falling out of the sky like bloody confetti.

Dead Man's Hand
Excellent narration of a super well written complicated intertwined plot of what may have been a true story dramatized to expose it to the full. Dark humour, good characterizations thrill the listener who cannot expect the events that crop up, such are the clues and left-field action that results. So stuffed with details, machinations and dastardliness, it may not be everyone's cup of tea as it requires some staying power to keep up and reach the end.
Tom is an anti-hero, addicted to facts and figures, so good at cards, but plays them badly in his career at the NTSB but so good it draws attention to him to assist in a money laundering scheme in casinos.
This is possibly one of the best books of it's type I've ever had, which I listened to pool side last week on holiday in Egypt, flying there on a 737.
LOVED IT RECOMMENDED
Footnote: there is one flawed fact in this book. There are no steeplechases with only 8 jumps, it must've been a hurdle race.
