Summary

During the blackout of 1944, in the small English town of Hurstwick, something mysterious obliterates the church spire and slices through the nearby woods. Was it a secret Nazi weapon, as some locals suggest? Or just a downed plane? Evacuee George Moss finds an otherworldly explanation, then tries to keep it hidden.

Years later, Max Cannon moves to town. With help from his new friends, Ellie and Isaac, he learns of the secret that some residents have guarded for over seven decades. When that secret is threatened with exposure, strange things occur, and the army descends on Hurstwick. As does a visitor from much further afield, leaving Max and his friends in the middle of a deadly struggle....

A small-town science fiction mystery of galactic scale

Surprisingly good listen

This book is superb, I loved the storyline, the characters were rich and and easy to like get to know. It evoked a sense of place and time much like HG Wells war of the worlds and I enjoyed every second of it. Please write more soon

Slow Burner Lights The Fuse

I approached His Nsme Was Wren with only slight trepidation as I'm not usually one who enjoys "young adults book but ok for adults" tales. And although enjoyable at the outset there were one or two glitches whi h made me think...really? In 1944? But as the tale moved on and switched from past to present I became entranced and as well as the sci fi side of the story telling also enjoyed the "whodunnit" mystery element. Recommended and nice 'possible sequel' ending too....

His name was wren.

Although His name was Wren is aimed at readers much younger than myself, I enjoyed it immensely, it is very well written and very well read. I would have no trouble recommending this book.
