About this listen
It’s 1955, and Hollywood’s Golden Age is in full swing.
Lily Valentine never ventured far from the Missouri farm town where she grew up, unlike her older, headstrong sister Iris, who set out for Tinseltown the first chance she got. When Iris gets a job at Desilu Studios, she draws Lily to Hollywood with the promise of introducing her to the biggest star on television. Together, Lily and her best friend Dawna Parker arrive in Hollywood with little more than their suitcases and a promise to Lily’s dying grandmother to return a long-lost piece of family history to Lucille Ball. Everything falls apart the moment they arrive. In the wake of a scandal, Iris has left town, leaving Lily to pick up the pieces while trying against the odds to meet Lucy and keep her promise.
When Lily and Dawna are offered jobs and an apartment above Drayton’s Bakery, they soon find themselves tangled in a web of lies, secrets, and ever-increasing threats from an unknown source. As Lily gets to know Bennett Drayton, things grow more complex. Can she keep the Drayton’s from finding out her connection to the scandal that tore their lives apart while keeping her promise to her grandmother? Is the spark between her and Bennett worth the risk of exposing who she really is, all while fighting for her life?
