Summary
A chaotically magical sequel to Howl’s Moving Castle.
Charmain Baker is in over her head. Looking after Great Uncle William's tiny cottage while he's ill should have been easy, but Great Uncle William is better known as the Royal Wizard Norland and his house bends space and time. Its single door leads to any number of places—the bedrooms, the kitchen, the caves under the mountains, the past, to name but a few.
By opening that door, Charmain is now also looking after an extremely magical stray dog, a muddled young apprentice wizard and a box of the king's most treasured documents, as well as irritating a clan of small blue creatures.
Caught up in an intense royal search, she encounters an intimidating sorceress named Sophie. And where Sophie is, can the Wizard Howl and fire demon Calcifer be far behind?

Really enjoyable as always from DWJ
I loved Howls Moving Castle as a child and was thrilled to find the audobook here and even happier to find a sequel I hadn't heard of! Not a huge crossover with the original but nice consistency with earlier audiobooks and an enjoyable easy listening story. Would recommend if you enjoyed the original, excellent narrator performance.

My favourite in the series...
...but still took me some effort to finish. There is certainly a lot of great creative ideas once again gathered in this book but just as the two before, I just couldn't really click with most of the characters. They were a *little* less annoying this time around though and we even *almost* saw some character development (that sadly went nowhere in the end). As always, Kristin Atherton's performance is stellar and, to me, the most enjoyable thing about this whole series.

Brilliant story, my favourite so far
Loved all three books in the bowls moving castle trilogy but this one is so well written. With great characters and story. Bringing in the other two books and just making a magical exciting tale of new worlds and wonders through the eyes of a girl testing her independence. I’m now going to listen to it again.

The third book in the Howl's Moving Castle universe. Charmain, a bookish and somewhat lazy young lady, is sent to look after her Uncle William's house whilst he is ill. There she is thrown into a world of magic, a missing royal treasury, an incomprehensible house and some malevolent and not so malevolent creatures.
- I love how the author crafts characters that are real and flawed but also that you can empathise with. Charmain has a temper, is sometimes rude and often selfish but she is also determined and learns that she is built for more than she's been lead to expect.
- As always, the vivid descriptions are amazing. You feel part of the story, landscape, scenes, everything. It's all brought to life with such detail and character.
- As with Castle in the Air, there are cameos from previous books though this time some are more overt. I loved spending more time seeing these characters and how they've changed over time.
Whimsical, magical and thoroughly enjoyable. I have enjoyed his series so much and will be sad to leave. Highly recommended as a cosy fantasy to enjoy with younger readers.

Lovely story, weird accents
Found it quite distracting for a long while trying to get my head around what the accents were even supposed to be. Stilted reading too. But a lovely story

Excellent story very well narrated.
This is one of three connected novels, however it is also a good stand-alone book. Diana Wynne Jones is an excellent story teller and this doesn't disappoint.Good characters and good plot. For children, teens and children of all ages.

loved the story!
The narrator even kept Howl's Welsh accent! in fact she kept all character accents that were present in earlier books. Really enjoyed it. I wish there wer more to the series. It was absolutely Hilarious when Howl Turned himself into a little boy with a lisp. you could easily understand Sophie's frustration 😂
