About this listen

Versace. The very name conjures up images of outrageous glamour and bold sexuality, opulence, and daring. All of course true, but only half the story. Versace is also the legacy of a great creative genius from a poor, backward part of southern Italy who transformed the fashion world through his intuitive understanding of both women and how a changing culture influenced the way they wanted to dress.

The first book in English about the legendary designer, House of Versace shows how Gianni Versace, with his flamboyant sister Donatella at his side, combined his virtuosic talent and extraordinary ambition to almost single-handedly create the celebrity culture we take for granted today.

Gianni Versace was at the height of his creative powers when he was murdered in Miami Beach. The story was headline news around the world and the manhunt for his killer a media obsession. His beloved sister Donatella demanded no less than a funeral befitting an assassinated head-of-state to be held in Milan's magnificent cathedral. In what was the ultimate fashion show, the world's rich and beautiful - Princess Dianna, Elton John, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Anna Wintour, and others - gathered to mourn a man already considered one of fashion's great pioneers.

Best book on Versace you can find

if you want a detailed story of the Versace brand this is perfect for you. I love that the book focuses on Versace as a company and not just Gianni's death. If you want every detail of the Versace company and the family, this is the perfect book.

Average

Writing was occasionally overly dramatic. Narrator had issues with pronouncing Italian names. When narrating a book about an Italian family and company, why not check the pronunciations.

Interesting insight but very slow performance

The Versace story is very interesting and provides insight into the world of fashion but the narrator was slow and laboured in her delivery I gave up two thirds through

Captivating

I was surprised about how captivating the book was. It’s very well written. I couldn’t stop listening to it.

Fashion at its worse

It's fascinating to hear how the young Giovarni designed clothes and built up an incredible empire in the world of fashion. Fir it to crumble and struggle after his untimely death and the reason why he chose to leave his empire to his nice. Its amazing how much money these people make and how it changes them into monsters who waste it rather than putting it to good use and feeling extremely greatful for their good fortune. Abit dull in parts but a good insite into the world of luxury fashion.

Superb story

Really engrossing tale but made tough by a slightly monotone narrator. On the whole though a really interesting listen.

Best freebie I’ve ever listened to. If you’re into fashion and celebrity you’ll absolutely love this book. It has it all. Sooooooo good

Interesting for background listening

I’m glad I didn’t pay for this as it was included as free, I would listen to this and whilst doing other things so it was nice to have the story in the background. However I noticed the audio would change a lot, like parts were being read in different rooms.

Mixed bag

A good story but the narration was robotic in tone and regular mispronunciations of French words in particular

I really enjoyed this.

It was a free audible listen, and as I had paid for the last two books, enjoying neither.
I was really pleased with this.
Lots of in depth personal and business information.
I love fashion and business so the perfect combo.
