Summary

From Danny Pellegrino, creator of the hugely successful podcast Everything Iconic! Stories that will make you laugh, cry, and dig up all your awkward middle-school pictures.

Growing up in small-town Ohio isn't easy, particularly when you're a closeted gay kid surrounded by...no one openly gay. Luckily, Danny Pellegrino grew up in the '90s, coming of age when the internet opened up a whole new world for a curious kid itching for life outside of Midwest suburbia. Danny escaped the pains of growing up by submerging himself in a sea of pop culture - bingeing The Nanny until he had the confidence of Fran Fine, belting out Brandy songs until his heartaches were healed, and watching every semi-clothed Ryan Phillippe scene known to man.

Now, as a successful podcaster interviewing the same iconic personalities that he idolized as a kid, Danny's life has only become more entertaining and delightfully chaotic.

Heartfelt and hilarious, How Do I Un-Remember This? is a collection of real-life stories exploring Danny's journey from feeling like the only gay kid in Ohio to becoming a big-time podcaster in Los Angeles, and all the amusing moments life threw at him in between. With remarkable honesty and his trademark humor, Danny discusses his struggles alongside his love for all things pop culture in a way that is equally emotional and uplifting. And of course, it's all sprinkled with a little '90s nostalgia and a whole lot of comedy.

Pure joy

Danny radiates warmth, kindness, authenticity and silliness, all my favourite things! It is pure joy to listen to his stories, and don't get me started on how warm and fuzzy I feel every single time he pronounces the 'S' in 'Blouse'. Thank you Danny for some respite from this tough world!

This book IS iconic! (not a boy, not yet a diva)

If you’re a fan of Danny’s podcast or not, you’ll love this book. It is a gift to listen to Danny’s best stories all in one tidy place.
Imagine David Sedaris but in a blue collar family in Ohio & with more heart & peep. Okay, so maybe not David Sedaris? BUT in a similar vein. (He is most definitely his own person).
In this read/listen, you’ll get 2000’s references out the wazoo. Do yourself a favour & enjoy deep dives into family, growing up queer in white bread America, the most hilarious thoughts, observations and tangents, learning from mistakes, blips before arriving at self-love, a chain-smoking father getting a 12 yr old to drive at night on a family road trip while everyone was snoozing, the most loving mother we’ve all ever wanted and needed, more pop culture & housewives references, belly laughter, heart ache, growing pains AND pure f-ing joy. Danny is an absolute delight and deserves every single literary award you’ve got... at least a golden space man.

Meh

A woe is me series of stories told through the eyes of someone who perceives themselves to be a victim of anything and everything. The near constant try-hard pop culture references become old real fast and went out of fashion when buzzfeed did.
