About this listen
The body of Edward Rewold is discovered hanged in an abandoned warehouse and has a puzzling cryptic message: Lukas Boston's name is painted on its feet. It begins a bizarre investigation involving the stolen contents of a safe, a seaside markets populated by insane stall owners, and an evil corporation that decides on sending Lukas to the bottom of the harbor as the best solution to stop him poking his nose into its illegal business.
For a change, someone is merely trying to drown Lukas, while an old enemy only wants to beat him to death with a pool cue. Normally, bad people are only trying to shoot him, but the good times don't last forever....
Welcome to the world of Lukas Boston, a private investigator, where even eating fish and chips can be murder.

Like a spider into a web.
Disgraced cop, turned Private Eye, Lucas Boston, is called to a warehouse to view a body hanging from the rafters, Lucas's name painted on his bare feet. The corpse was already known to the P.I. - he was a client. And later, alone with the gently swinging body, it asked Lucas, "Where are my socks?"
If hard, bleak detective stories are your thing, this probably isn't the book for you. But if you enjoy fun and, yes, even laughter, mixed into a rattling good story populated with eccentric characters, this book gives all, and more. Most people eating a fish and chip dinner only have seagulls to fear. Not Lucas, who falls fowl of a more deadly intent. He falls, too, for many a pretty face (and other attributes). Not really a paranormal detective story, our anti hero does sometimes get a little nudge in the right direction by the departed. This is a fun story.
The narration by Graeme Hague is good, too, well intoned, matching the text and individual voicings for all of the protagonists. A good performance (with an Aussie accent).
My thanks to the rights holder of Hung Out To Die, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. This is the second in this excellent fun series, but completely stand alone. Recommended.
