About this listen
Trace Durham was injured in combat, given a purple heart, and discharged from the army. As time goes by, and he’s still confined to a wheelchair, his spirits plummet. But meeting a feisty widow whose husband had been killed while serving in the military makes him take a closer look at himself. After she apologizes and he meets her again at a photo shoot, he renews his determination not to accept his fate and begins a fight that carries over into his faith and personal relationships. Just maybe his future can be brighter than he thought.

Wonderful listen!
Military, romance, jealousy, faith, Janice Cole Hopkins packs in a lot into this amazing story! Trace was injured during combat and is home now in a wheelchair. He has a good prognosis as long as he works at it, but is finding it hard to keep his faith. Going to a picnic with his buddies has lifted his spirits a bit, but there is still that underlying thread of doom in him. Brittany is a widow that Trace meets, feisty, self sufficient and has no intention of getting married again. There is an instant connection with the two, but his friend Nolan has made an unsolicited claim on her. Though he makes her uncomfortable, Brittany does her best to tolerate Nolan because he was friends with her husband. But now things are getting worse, and Trace and Brittany come up with a plan to deter Nolan. Will it work? I really enjoyed this story. The military background is something that I am drawn to, and this book depicts life for the soldiers home perfectly. The inspiration Trace and Brittany give is immediate, with their similar beliefs and chemistry, it's easy to feel their growing love. And Nolan is quite the character. But I won't go into it all, you have to read/listen to this one! It's perfect for this time of year!
Jared Walters brings it all to life with a wonderful performance. Able to keep several soldiers distinguishable, I enjoyed his voices and he chose a great sound for Brittany. His inflections gave the right amount of emotions so we could tell what each person was feeling and it made for an enjoyable listen.
