Summary

Could your past actually be your future?

From the Sunday Times best-selling author of Just My Luck and Both of You, comes a witty and insightful novel of relationships and whether you can ever escape your past....

Bella secretly married her childhood sweetheart, Stevie, over a decade ago. When the whirlwind romance unravelled, they parted ways, but never got around to divorcing.

Years later, Bella met Philip and spontaneously accepted his proposal, without ever finding the right moment to reveal the truth about her past.

Now happily married, Bella believes her secret is safe. That is until her best friend Laura introduces her new man - who is none other than Bella's husband number one.

And the only thing that could make this triangle more complicated would be if Bella and Stevie fall in love again....

Unbelievable plot.

Utter rubbish from an author who clearly had a mortgage payment due. Please don't get me wrong, Adele Parks is one of the best authors of our generation but is obviously contracted to produce a certain amount of books per year, hence 'Husbands'. I wish writers could just publish masterpieces, of which Adele has many, unfortunately, this isn't one of them.

Review

Easy listen and story line was nice. Laura narrator was a bit too much for me though.

What age was Adele Parks when she wrote this?

Really not sure what audience this is aimed at so I may be the wrong demographic. Absolutely the worst book I have ever has the displeasure of experiencing. The characters are awful and truly unbelievable. Storyline laughable and the cast just awful. The book is infantile overall, interspersed with tacky, dirty and unnecessary sex speak. Sadly I am one who cannot leave a book unfinished but this is one I genuinely regret. A big NO for me. 😡

very enjoyable listen

this is the first Adele parks book I have listened to and won't be my last , good story through out and read brilliantly by new ( to me ) actors.
I could picture every character.,even Stevie in his red jumpsuit.

A good Listen

Adele Parks writes two types of novels the Chicklit romantic comedy and then the psychological thrillers. I prefer the light hearted romantic contemporary listens.

I did enjoy listening to this story but I found it easy to guess what would happen next.

I did love that Adele Parks actually speaks herself at the beginning of when and why she wrote this book, which added a lovely personal touch.

The separate narrators were a great idea and made listening so much better.

I would recommend this book on a 2 for 1 credit, Daily deal or the £2.99 sale!

Read too fast by the Australian for my taste,

The reading by the Australian woman was too fast for my taste. It was difficult to understand at times; words merged.

Terrible

Hate to leave a bad review but this is probably the worst storyline I’ve ever encountered and Bella is the most unlikable character imaginable. The narration of her character was irritating and made a poor, boring & nonsensical storyline even more unbearable. I stuck with it until the end in the hope it would improve, even just slightly, but it unfortunately did not.

Predictable

Not sure why I persevered with this. Probably because I usually like the author. Couldn't warm to any of the characters and the storyline was totally predictable. Never got going for me. Felt like a chore to finish. Narrators were good although Laura was a bit irritating at times. Bought in the 2 for 1 sale. If I had paid full price I would probably have returned this.

There's fiction, and then there is this...

The book is populated with truly horrible, immature, entitled people - with no consideration for the fallout and impact on others. All quite distasteful and totally unbelievable.
