About this listen

Silence is golden, unless you’re permanently hushed up. When Lillian Johnson was found dead one hot summer day, no one in the town of Bradley, North Carolina, was all that surprised. Lillian had always talked about the trials of her various health problems, and was sure to share with everyone exactly how much she suffered. The townspeople were only slightly more surprised to discover that Lillian had been murdered. That’s because Lillian, like most folks, had a dark side. And a fair number of people had experienced this dark side.

Myrtle Clover, octogenarian sleuth and intrepid reporter, investigates Lillian’s death to discover precisely who hushed her up, before someone else is permanently silenced.

Don't keep this book a secret

I enjoyed this book. Myrtle Clover the octogenarian sleuth and her sleep deprived sidekick are back investigating another puzzling murder, like only they can do. So be prepared for death predictions from psychics, uncut lawns full of gnomes, food that nobody wants to eat and hobbies that send neighbours ducking for cover. All of this humour is cleverly woven into a mystery that keeps you guessing and crossing suspects off your list. The clues are there if you are quick enough like Myrtle to put them together before the killer reveals themselves. The characters are so well developed with this being book fifteen in the series, that Myrtle feels like if not your granny then at least a favourite aunt that keeps you returning to her side for another story. You have got to love Miles and his quirks too, as well as the other interesting characters that are in Myrtle's life. A fun cosy mystery that is easy to listen to and enjoy.
Miles inability to say no, has landed him helping the garden group run a charity find raiser. While collecting the donations he stumbles over the dead body of the local florist. He and Myrtle are soon coming up with reasons to question all the suspects in order to help solve the case. The dead woman didn't listen to Wander's prediction but even though everybody hated her she didn't deserve to did. Can Miles stay awake long enough to help Myrtle piece together the clues and find the killer before anyone else is hurt?
I liked the narrator. She had a pleasant voice that she put to good use bringing the characters to life.
