About this listen
‘A darkly funny riot’ The Times, Book of the Month
A GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD FOR FICTION 2024
Would you want to know what your colleagues say behind your back?
Jolene certainly doesn’t.
She’s riddled with anxiety, depressed, and hates her coworkers. The less she knows about them, the better.
So when a catastrophic IT f--k up grants her access to all of their emails and private messages, she’s initially horrified. The last thing she wants is to be privy to their sad discussions about dying desk plants and marital troubles.
That’s until, with job cuts looming, she realises the power this new-found knowledge gives her.
But as she digs deeper and deeper into the private lives of her colleagues, Jolene uncovers a lot more than she bargained for… And the walls she’d so carefully built start crumbling down.
For readers who loved The Office US and Really Good, Actually comes the awkward heroine you’re about to fall in love with

Hope.
It’s difficult to put in words how much this book meant. It wasn’t an easy listen at times feeling the anxiety and rollercoaster of emotions the protagonist went through but it was real. A wonderful story. Thank you.

Good story but over dramatic narration
4 for 3.5. I enjoyed the story a lot but after a couple of hours the almost constant intensely dramatic narration of Jolene’s inner world was just so irritating. It really impacted my enjoyment of the book. I appreciate this is probably down to the direction rather than the skill of the narrator.

Great plot & story
Did get second hand embarrassment for some of the characters at points but overall I really enjoyed the story. Worth a listen for sure!

unnecessarily dreary and long
The concept is great, being able to see colleagues emails could have been a set up a wholesome, funny romantic easy read. instead this is just an unlikeable main character being overly dramatic and dreary, and just moaning for the entire thing. Every single side plot had unnecessary depressive elements. if you're looking for a fun romantic read, stay away. I finished it but wish I hadn't bothered.

Struggled to finish this.
I struggled to finish this. I just didn’t care about the main character at all. It meant the story really dragged…

Amateurish prose
I persevered despite the clunky and laughably immature overuse of cliched figurative language throughout. This made an already dull story very predictable. I guess I liked the characters but wonder if a better writer would have presented their stories with some finesse and discernment. It read like fan fiction or a bad YA novel.
