Summary
On March 18, 1314, the stake eliminated Giacomo di Molay - the last "Gran Maestro Templare" (Grand Master Templar) - but was not able to extinguish the memory of the powerful order of monastic chivalry that was born in the 12th century to defend pilgrims on their journeys to the Holy Land. Over time, the Templars accumulated great strength, occupying a key role in Christianity. With their wealth and great influence, the Templars attracted constant criticism, which they were able to dismiss as long as the Latin Oriental reign survived. When they last their last outposts (1291), the existence of the Templars reached a critical point, and they were no longer able to confront the intrigue and plots of the French king, Philip IV, who accused them of infamous deeds and did his utmost to convince the pope to bring an end to the Order of the Templars.
