Two different women, divided by time, bound by fate...

After her mother dies, grief-stricken Cora discovers she has been left a cottage, a crumbling shelter on a mysterious Scottish island. The moment Cora arrives on the windswept isle of Seal, she falls under its spell and is drawn to brooding Innes, back on the island to confront his past.

As Cora begins to trace her mother's roots, she learns Gealach Cottage has a dark, turbulent history. Another young woman has sought refuge here, fleeing terrible danger, and waiting for her lover to return. What became of her?

Only by unravelling a forgotten story of passion and courage can Cora understand what has pulled her to Seal...and led her to a man of many secrets.

A story with a lot of potential then ...

This is only my second Daniela Sacerdoti book and, perhaps mistakenly, I had the impression that I could expect happy (or at least hopeful) endings after strife. It seems I was wrong.
I did enjoy the majority of the book. A lot of great story lines that had a lot of potential for development and got me emotionally involved. I was disappointed that the story of the first book in the series made no appearance (bar one vague reference), I'd have liked to know how they were doing, but that is fair enough, this book can stand alone.
However I didn't feel that any of the above mentioned story lines were played to their full potential and then they just ended. And I hated the ending. Perhaps it appeals to some, but while I don't mind crying throughout the book, I don't like finishing a book miserable and angry!
