There are a number of books about historical figures this one did remind me of Mary Renault's books about Alexander The Great.

Have you listened to any of Chistopher Crosby Morris’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This is the first book I've had with this narrator his lack of of an American accent made it a surprise when some words were pronounced the American way i.e. Shone pronounced as Shown.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

His final farewells to his sons were moving.

The names of the characters was sometimes confusing

by Janet Morris

A brilliant piece of work for Morris, well researched and creating a spectacular delivery.
The author's knowledge of Hittite culture is stupendous and the book is filled with feeling and understanding, delving into the depths of this amazing over 500pg read.

A mountain of research has been done by Morris in the multitude of works she has produced and all divulge a magnificence in her writing - an author truly worth looking into for interesting historic and epic tales.

A Tour de Force that needs Stamina to listen

Incredible, impeccable research and in an area little covered. The Hittites...that amazing warlike race that would later overrun Egypt and their extraordinarily fierce King Suppiluliumas (what a mouthful). The narrator does an amazing job pronouncing all the place names and personal names. I really wanted to read it because I am writing a book about Egypt and was interested to find a historical novel covering the people who would become such an incredible foe. I wasn't disappointed but it is a long read, incredibly detailed, perhaps too much so for a novel. I felt lucky to already have knowledge of the geographythe map and diplomatic background. However, the book is a tour de force and Janet Morris deserves accolades. If you are interested in The Hittites and the psychology of tough, hard bitten conquerors - think Napoleon, Rommel, and Patton. I've left out Alexander only because I want to think of him as a gorgeous, romantic, and compassionate hero! Anyway, I'd like to recommend this book to history lovers but be prepared for a very long haul.
