About this listen
In this omnibus edition of Basil Sands' Ice Hammer series, Brad Stone does whatever it takes to keep his family alive through a dangerous war set in frigid Alaska.
Invasion
When a new communist alliance invades North America, former Marine Brad Stone must do whatever it takes to keep his family alive, even become Ice Hammer - the most wanted man in Alaska.
Insurgent
Following the invasion of the previous year, Brad Stone has become the figure head of Alaska’s resistance movement. He’s now head of the largest militia in the former state, including the Chiknik Rangers, making him enemy number one to the Chinese leadership based in Anchorage.
At the same time, his sons, Ben and Ian, find themselves waging a bloody guerilla operation against Russian troops in the east. Unknown to any of them, Youngmi - whose mangled, dead body haunts Brad’s dreams - has become the mistress of General Zhang, head of the Chinese forces in Alaska, and a major player in the resistance movement, passing on information that could mean her real death if she’s caught.
Invicible
The war is in its third year. No help is coming. America is no more.
Brad Stone could not escape the image of his first wife’s mangled body in the opening days of the invasion. Ben Stone has grown into a capable leader, his younger brother Ian, a bloodthirsty monster. The family is being pushed ever nearer to being reunited while Brad and the Chiknik Rangers plan their most ambitious mission to date, throwing their full strength against General Zhang’s forces before they get too close to the thousands of refugees under his protection, in this daring conclusion to Ice Hammer.

Excellent Action Packed Fast Paced Adventure
I just loved listening to this action packed adventure, the many lead characters are very likeable and interesting, I really enjoyed getting to know them all through the three books(almost 35 hours long).
The story is fast paced from the beginning until the very end.
The storyline is really well put together and very believable with the Russians and Chinese invading America some time in the near future. I liked the way the story was told from the view of the different characters and how there was plenty of humour even in the saddest moments.
This was brilliantly written and narrated by the extremely talented Basil Sands, I can't wait to listen to more of his work and hopefully we will hear a lot more from the Stone family in future books.
I received this in exchange of an honest and objective review, it was truly a pleasure to do so.

Predictable but immature Right wing characters
Reading was ok. I have heard him read other writers work and was impressed, less so in this book.
Use of Korean cultural motif was appreciated. Descriptions of Alaska were nice and clearly very well researched. I believe the writer has Alaska experience if not residency.
Unfortunately the characters were cookie cutter. Our heroes were righteous, conservative, religious and sensible on the one part and obnoxious, civil servant, bureaucrats on the other...and thats not the enemies.
The Russians and Chinese opponents were equally shallow and fairly unrealistic. Both sides behaved unrealistically.
I found myself skipping entire chapters which were composed of puppy love even in married couples of 30 years. Some of the characters were positively immature and cartoonish.
Sorry Basil.
