About this listen

Illegitimate children, adulterous queens, impotent kings, and a whole dynasty resting on their shoulders. Sex and childbirth were quite literally a matter of life or death for the Tudors.

Frustrating Listen

I found the book difficult to listen to, the narrator stumbled over the text, gave emphasis to random words and seemed to run one sentence into another. It was very disappointing as the book had lots of interesting information.

Tudors?

I'm sorry to say but I had to stop listening to this book. The narrator, I felt, was not too good. There were mispronounced words, slow pronunciation of words. This can't all be placed at the door of the narrator, some must be placed with the editor. I regret not being able to complete the book as the Tudor era is one of my favourite periods.

let down by poor reading

Where does In Bed with the Tudors rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The book is interesting and enjoyable, but the reader frequently mispronounces words, confuses words and generally appears to have a poor understanding of what she is reading. This is a pity as it is a good book.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Debra Burton?

Anyone capable of getting the words right.

Ruined by poor narration

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Grating voice - emphasis and delivery sound like a particularly bad am-dram actress - many words mispronounced - Difficult to listen to.

Any additional comments?

Such a shame that a well-written and potentially interesting book should have been reduced to this.
