About this listen

Die for the Company, Live for the Pay

And the ultimate payoff is DH-17, an earthlike planet hundreds of light years from human habitation.

Ruthless corporations vie over the prize remotely, and war is in full swing. But soldiers recruited to fight in the extremities of deep space come with their own problems, from AI minds in full rebellion to Carlos 'the Terrorist' and his team of dead mercenaries, reincarnated from a bloodier period in earth's history for one purpose only: to kill.

But as old rivalries emerge and new ones form, Carlos must decide whether he's willing to fight for the company or die for himself.

Ken MacLeod continues the Corporation Wars trilogy in this action-packed science fiction adventure told against a backdrop of interstellar drone warfare, virtual reality, and an AI revolution.

better than first book

the political and existential philosophies are examined further, it's interesting how the arguments genuinely effect one's moral view. one of the other reviews said there wasn't enough action until the end of the book. if by action they mean 'shoot em up' then true, but if that's what you want you're in the wrong SIM!

really enjoyed this, but there are parts of the narrative than need real attention as the protagonists discuss and sometimes change their views.

if conceptual Sci Fi is something you like I recommend the series. if lots of 'action' is your bent then go and listen to something less challenging.

Nothing happens until towards end

Is there anything you would change about this book?

More action, the characters and narration mean it is listenable all the way through, but nothings actually happens until the last 1/8 of the book.

What will your next listen be?

Arthur C Clark, new narrator, so hoping they now work on here.

Have you listened to any of Peter Kenny’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, very good narration, I follow the books he narrates as a good sign the book will be listenable.

Was The Corporation Wars: Insurgence worth the listening time?

Yes, but a bit slow.

Any additional comments?

I did feel like a delaying action for book 3.

I like Ken Mcleod but not this work

I really like the author and found his Fall Revolution books the best. I read the previous book in the series and thought it was OK. But this one did not make a good audio book. I really tried to list to it but after two months I have thrown in the towel midway through chapter 2. The story does not take off and the sentences do not feel natural. Leaving the narrator to give it a best but stilted shot.
