新嘗祭は、皇室の儀式の中でも特に重要な儀式の一つとされています。この日、宮中では、天皇陛下が神々に初穂をお供えになり、感謝の祈りをされたあと、初穂をお召し上がりになります。
現在、新嘗祭は皇居をはじめ、全国の神社でも行われています。
