Summary

Living a lie for 21 years - and now the past has caught up with him.... A first-rate thriller from the Sunday Times number one best-selling author of Six Years.

Grace Lawson is living a happy, straightforward life in the suburbs with her husband, Jack, and two young children. But that security is about to come to a brutal end.

For when Grace picks up a set of holiday snaps, amongst them is one shot that doesn't fit: a faded image of a life that Grace doesn't recognise and of her husband as she never knew him.

Within 12 hours, Jack has disappeared, a brutal hitman is stalking her family and the safe world she knows has been turned upside down. And all Grace can see is that the past is coming back to haunt the present and people are getting hurt....

Disappointing

Lots of twists and if you listen, make sure you listen to the end.
However, I didnt enjoy the narration (sorry) and found the plot a little ott!
While I love a thriller and good twists and turns in the plot, this was disappointing, especially for Harlen Coben

Bad narration

Excellent story, but the narration was awful, lots of twists made myself listen to the end. Glad I persevered as I enjoyed the story.

Terrible Narration

Seriously? Harlen Coben writes some amazing stories... there are always so many twists that leave you wanting, needing, to read/listen to the end. Especially as the characters and their lives are always so relatable. ...even when the plots and twists seem a little far fetched, the authors books are highly enjoyable for their genre.
BUT...the narration on this book is just horrendous! If it wasn't a real person, I'd have assumed it was a broken robot. It's so monotone and weirdly stilted....it's just...bad. Nearly ruined the story for me. That narrator needs a new job.

Excellent as always

This is another excellent book. Didn’t guess the ending at all. I don’t understand all of the negative reviews about the narrator.

Terrible

The narrator is so bad I had to give up. I couldn't comment on the story. Even at 1.2 speed it was just awful.

Bad reading

The reader couldn’t read a sentence , she read every word separately stopping at the wrong places.

Was this actually written by Harlan Coben?

Awful book - it’s like he wrote a short story and had to pad it out with 10 hours of pointless description. Narrator is annoying too.
I read lots of HC and this is either one of his earliest books before he learned to write a decent thriller, or someone else wrote it and they whacked his name on it! So bad - avoid!
