Story
The brand-new, hilarious book from best-selling, record-breaking author Adam Kay. The olden days were pretty fun if you liked wearing chainmail or chopping people's heads off, but there was one tiny little problem back then...doctors didn't have the slightest clue about how our bodies worked. It's time to find out why Ancient Egyptians thought the brain was just a useless load of old stuffing that might as well be chucked in the bin, why teachers forced their pupils to smoke cigarettes, why hairdressers would cut off their customers' legs and why people used to get paid for farting.

One of the many strange effects of the 2020 pandemic has been to make us much more vigilant about the state of our health in general and about minor symptoms in particular. And this, in turn, has made us more conscious that we all feel slightly out of sorts a great deal of the time; maybe even every day. This book is not about what happens when we're ill with something sufficiently serious to send us to the doctor or confine us to bed. Instead, it focuses on the multitude of mild, irksome, distracting illnesses, aches and pains with which we all put up with constantly.

Summary
Brought to you by Puffin.
The first children's audiobook from Adam Kay.
A Sunday Times pick for audiobooks to listen to during lockdown.
Explore each organ of the body in this immersive audiobook edition of Kay's Anatomy, read by Adam Kay with a full cast of voices, including Mark Gatiss, Sandi Toksvig, Andy Nyman and Lolly Adefope.
Do you ever think about your body and how it all works? Like really properly think about it?
The human body is extraordinary and fascinating and, well...pretty weird. Yours is weird; mine is weird; your maths teacher's is even weirder.
This book is going to tell you what's actually going on in there, and answer the really important questions, like:
Are bogeys safe to eat? Look, if your nose is going to all that effort of creating a snack, the least we can do is check out its nutritional value. (Yes, they're safe. Chew away!)
And....
How much of your life will you spend on the toilet? About a year - so bring a good book. (I recommend this one.)
So sit back, relax, put on some rubber gloves and let a doctor take you on a poo- and puke-filled tour of your insides. Welcome to Kay's Anatomy*.
*a fancy word for your body. See, you're learning already.
The full cast includes: Andy Nyman, Joe Wilkinson, Rose Matafeo, Mark Gatiss, Dan Tetsell, Sandi Toksvig, Desiree Burch, Lolly Adefope, Mike Wozniak, Jan Ravens, Lucy Montgomery, Tom Allen, Henry Paker and Reece Shearsmith.

Didn't' expect this to be a kids book!
Had this on pre-order for a while, and within a few minutes of listening I figured I had purchased a children's book! There is so many constant sound effects, and children's characters voice overs, it's almost difficult to listen.
If these were removed, the story and facts are actually quite interesting and an enjoyable read. If I was a child, I'm sure this book would be even more interesting and engaging, so suits the intended audience.

Loved it!
This is the first children's book by former doctor Adam Kay. I brought this book for my 9 year old son, but ended up reading it myself.
This book is an investigation of the human body with jokes and illustrations making the facts easier to recall.
I've read all of Adam Kay's previous books and I have loved them all! At this point if Adam Kay published his shopping list... I would read it.

Top pick for paeds
Sadly, I just couldn't get into this. Like some others, I didn't realise that this was pitched at a younger audience, and found the voiceovers and fart jokes a bit juvenile. I totally rate Adam Kay as an author and loved 'This is going to hurt', so was expecting something of a similar vein. It would've been great if the intended audience was made clearer a few months back so those who were pre-ordeing might've had a bit of a heads up.
My daughter is a bit young still, but I'll certainly be keeping this on the back burner for when she's a bit older and will appreciate a really thorough and light-hearted guide to the human body.
