About this listen

I will discuss ketogenic diets in more detail. A few ketogenic diets also influence non-dietary lifestyle changes, such as exercising. Typically, our body uses the carbohydrates we consume as fuel. Our body turns carbohydrates into glucose and raises our blood sugar levels when we eat them. Our body produces insulin in reaction to that elevated blood sugar level. Insulin's job is to transport glucose into cells throughout our body so that it may be converted to energy. Insulin directs the cells to store energy as either fat or carbohydrates while our bodies burn glucose for energy. Eating too many carbohydrates may be harmful to you depending on several factors, particularly if you consume a lot of junk food (also known as "bad," fast-burning, processed, etc.).

This maintains your blood sugar levels up and prevents excessive long-term insulin production, which may cause issues like insulin resistance (a condition in which cells are overstimulated with insulin to the point that they eventually stop responding to it and stop it from doing its function). Insulin resistance is more common in postmenopausal women, PCOS-affected women, and hypothyroid individuals. Insulin resistance has also been linked to a higher risk of diabetes, breast cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Several of my patients see insulin resistance as a preventive measure for pre-diabetes.
