Summary
Can a hero in-game rise in real life? The harsh realities of middle school meet the endless possibilities of an online fantasy world. Nole, an awkward eighth-grade introvert, escapes into the realm of Enix, where he reinvents himself. While facing the daily struggles of adolescence—bullies, unrequited crushes, and self-doubt—Nole finds solace in a digital universe where he can be anything he dreams of. But will his newfound confidence in-game translate to real life? Kianola is a tale of friendship, self-discovery, and imagination that captures growing up in both reality and the virtual world.

A plesent change of pace
I was expecting another litrpg where the main character is thrown into a new world. This is more slice of life where you follow a young teen finding connections withing a MMORPG.
The author also narrates, and whilst he's a little monotone, he kept me wanting to continue. i did thoroughly enjoy the voices of certain creatures which i let you listen for yourself.
From what i can see this is his first works and i hope theres more stories to come. Whilst i got a code from the author through reddit, i'd happily use credits for the next installment if there is one.

A World of Warcraft Nostalgia trip
Overall I enjoyed the book, a simple story but well written and some nice details.
No big twists or turns but it moved along at a decent pace.
To me, having spent a lot of my youth playing world of warcraft, it was immediately obvious that the game featured in the story was very much inspired by WoW, it's a direct copy but the place names have been changed slightly.
I found it to be nostalgic and endearing I think this was the main draw for me and kept me going, without the nostalgia and rose tinted glasses I think it may be a little lackluster and too simple for some.
I struggled with the narration, it's very flat and slow are no inflections or variations to the different characters, the book is narrated by the author in what I assume is their normal speaking voice throughout.
I appreciate that hiring a narrator is expensive but It does bring the story and characters to life.
Increasing the playback speed to 1.2x helped a lot for me.

Worth sticking with
To be totally upfront, I obtained this freely via a code from the author.
When I first started listening it was a real struggle. Around an hour in I was seriously contemplating quitting, and it took me 2 days of background listening to get there. The opening is slow, and the author's delivery did not seem to work for me, but after 2 hours thongs changed. I think I got used to the voice and/or the voice picked up too, and the story really picked up
I'm so glad I persevered. It's a wonderful little story and I'd consider purchasing another from the author, if one comes along.
