Summary
It came from beyond the sky.
At first distant glance, the spherical object appeared nothing more innocuous than a shooting star. Yet, upon further observation, there was something unsettling about its descent. This was no natural free-fall.
The year is 1953, and the citizens of the American rural town of Kingshire Falls are busy preparing for its centenary.
What was intended to be a day of celebrations soon turns into a desperate fight for survival as friends and family begin to turn into mutated creatures, intent on taking over the town.
Low on weapons, ideas, and hope, a motley crew of survivors must band together if they are to survive.
Kingshire Falls is an affectionate, tongue-in-cheek, homage to the wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) sci-fi and horror B-Movies of the 1950s-1980s. It’s a quiet place to live, but you wouldn’t want to die there.

An enjoyable tribute schlock cinema
Once again McElhenny delivers an entertaining tale with his signature humour dispersed throughout. If you've ever watched any of the classic B movies you'll recognise the tropes both in characters and plot but you don't really need prior knowledge to enjoy this quirky sci-fi horror. Don't be surprised if you visualise the entire novel in black and white, it genuinely has that 50's cinema feel to it.
Now, onto Payton's narration. His delivery and his character voices are decent but the actual quality of the recording is terrible. The entirety of the audiobook is very tinny sounding and suffers from poor editing with elongated silences between some chapters which detracts from enjoying the performance.

Kingshire Falls
Another very amusing horror story from the pen of Steve McElhenny. Kingshire Falls is fast paced and addictive listening throughout. Some of the scenes are somewhat graphic and stomach turning but overall it's not a bad listen. Excellent characters and a good plot make this a must read for all of Steve's fans of which I must admit I am one. John Lee Payton does a good job of the narration and brings the story to life. I agree with other reviewers that the quality of the recording could be better and the long silences at the end/beginning of the chapters could have been compressed but it's no big deal IMPO.
