About this listen

Obsession, jealousy, lust, revenge....

There is nothing more dangerous than a passion that curdles and spills into murder. Love, when it goes wrong and spirals into violence, leads to the most chilling and tragic consequences. Death at the hands of a partner or ex-partner is the most common form of murder for women, far outnumbering the risk of death from a stranger.

Obsessional sexual desire is the common thread through the stories in this book, tragic examples of how death can come at the hands of a once trusted and loved partner.

There is the story of talented US landscape artist Jill Cahill, whose husband was not content with battering his wife to a pulp but went back to finish the job while she lay in her hospital bed. There is the case of Martha Freeman from Tennessee, who hid her lover in her wardrobe, and then teamed up with him to murder her husband. There is the wife whose body was found in the boot of her own car, and whose husband had framed his girlfriend for the crime, hoping to get rid of two women from his life.

UK student John Tanner served a 12-year sentence for the murder of his girlfriend and is now back behind bars for another attack on another partner. British soldier Emile Cilliers tried to murder his wife by cutting the cords of her parachute; however, while he may not have succeeded, Belgian teacher and amateur skydiver Els Clotterman did when she cut her love rival's cords five years earlier.

Packed with useful ideas. 🤣

Well there are certainly many ideas in this book to help you get rid of your loved one, if you were thinking along those lines.

The book is made up of 23 chapters, each a seperate killers history, hows whys and wherefores of the killing and the aftermath. Some of the killers are very clever. and some are just so dumb that the story beggars belief.

It was very interesting book, however I was staring to get a bit bored by chapter 15,, so for me personally an edit of the chapters or just skim the book down to a few less chapters might be in order.

Narration was slick, and Deidre Whelan had a great voice for this style of book.

Interesting tragic and thought provoking.

Included in ma free listens which is always a pleasure.
Not too preachy, not to value laden and a stimulating narrator.

Enjoyed this

As the title says I did enjoy this book even though some important stuff was missing, most notably for me was the section on Buck Ruxton. This was the first time a photos were superimposed on the skulls of the suspected victims thus helping to identify the murder victims and solve the crime instead we are told that the life cycle of flies and insects were used….I’ve not found this in anything else about this crime though I may be wrong. That aside I heard about some cases I didn’t know about and most importantly the book was a freebie!

Very interesting stories. I really enjoyed this book, although not the tragedies. The narrator was great. Very clear and easy to listen to.

Horrid

Why do people who claim to love each other end up being so cruel. Every story was more horrifying than the last
