About this listen

For 400 years, I have maintained the rules laid down centuries ago by Born vampires. We stay hidden in the shadows away from humans, and kill our enemies, the Lycans, when they trespass into our territory.

A test of my morality comes when a Lycan child crosses our border one day, and instead of killing it, I set it free. I am rewarded by the Lycans, but I have flouted the law I’ve so carefully followed for centuries.

I almost believed no one would discover my indiscretion when Arthur, a sinister Hunter tasked with finding vampires who have broken the laws, arrives at our castle. Then my best friend, Olivier, is recruited by Arthur, and I am all but certain I have been discovered.

I only have one option left.

Fleeing from the castle, I by chance befriend a Lycan named Knight. We can hardly stand being in the same room as each other, but there’s something about him that I cannot ignore. I eventually find myself in a town ruled by vampires, and run by a volatile vampire called James.

As James begins to exert control over me, the only way I can escape is with Knight by my side, and I am not sure I’m prepared to discover what is growing between us. But one foe can only be replaced by another, and while the dangers of James are bad enough, with the Hunters still searching for me, it might just be the safest place to be.

Sleep, pft, who needs it?

I made the mistake of putting this book on right before bed. Silly me was thinking I would put the snooze on and fall asleep listening. Nope! This book had me so enthralled that I barely got any sleep. I stayed up late and I woke up early. Amazing character development with a great storyline. The narrator was a perfect fit, she brought the story to life. I'm moving on to book 2!

Enemies or friends?!

From one act of kindness, Lisbeth's life spirals out of control, and she starts to question the laws she followed for 400 years and her beliefs. I enjoyed Lisbet's and Knight's friendship, but was heartbroken it took her so long to realise how she felt, and shocked at what she does in the aftermath! I really enjoyed this book and will be starting book 2 straight away!

vampires, werewolves oh my

I really enjoyed this book.

it was really interesting coming at the vampire, werewolf mythology in this book, the idea of born and made vampires isn't new but the creation stories for them was new and made for an interesting expansion into the inclusion of other supernatural beings and hinting at a deeper storyline regarding lisbeths heritage.

The existence of different types of wewolves is again not a new idea but the notion that there are divisions within these groups again was handled in a different way and I liked that.

I really liked Lisbeth as a character, she was strong and determined but also flawed and revealed a deeply human side in her attitude towards certain situations. The development of her relationship with Knight felt real and natural, as expected and unexpected as the development of her feelings were.

The narrator gave perfect pitch to all the characters and really helped draw the listener into the story.

I was given this audiobook for free and have left this review voluntarily.
