Excellent chat from Roger

I read this book in paperback years ago on holiday and found it to be decidedly average.

It recently popped up on Audible so I thought I’d give it a listen this time. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and found myself laughing out loud regularly.

I’m sure some will moan about the reader’s Roger Moore voice all the way through but while it wasn’t absolutely perfect, it quickly immersed me in the story telling and I really felt that Roger was in my head.

My only complaint is that it was over way too soon. Will just have to listen again.

What a man!

What a man, and what a book! Jonathan Keeble really delivers this book and you would think Sir Roger was narrating.

Disappointed

I normally buy books about 20+hours long but I was bored with this after about 3 hours. I is rare that I struggle to finish a book, but this was a trial. I'm not sure exactly why. Some of the stories were interesting and a couple did make me laugh out loud. But it just didn't pop.

The major problem for me was that I didn't like the narration. Ok, Keeble is very good at mimicing people and maybe it was his attempts to mimic Moore that was the problem. Moore's actual delivery is fine in a scripted way (I loved his Bond and his dry sense of humour) but it didn't work here. It seemed flat. I actually tuned out during parts of this and had to rewind.

Either buy the actual book and read it, or be really sure you're ok with the narration because for me it didn't work.

A really enjoyable read

Jonathan Keeble not only sounds like Roger Moore but his impressions of other well-known people are both superb and entertaining. The book itself is less of a ‘blow-by-blow’ autobiography but more a telling of tales and experiences. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to others.
