Summary

Moscou, années 1930, le stalinisme est tout puissant, l'austérité ronge la vie et les âmes, les artistes sont devenus serviles et l'athéisme est proclamé par l'État.

C'est dans ce contexte que le diable décide d'apparaître et de semer la pagaille bouleversant les notions de bien, de mal, de vrai, de faux, jusqu'à rendre fou ceux qu'il croise. André Markowicz, qui en retraduisant les œuvres de Fiodor Dostoïevski leur a rendu toute leur force, s'attaque à un monument littéraire et nous restitue sa cruauté première, son souffle romanesque, son universalité.
