Summary

A young boy is found horribly murdered in a mock crucifixion. Is the murderer the elderly woman who witnessed the crime? A neurologist who can no longer bear the pain life inflicts on its victims? A psychiatrist with a macabre sense of humor and a guilty secret? A mysterious mental patient, locked in silent isolation?

Lieutenant Kinderman follows a bewildering trail that links all these people, confronting a new enigma at every turn even as more murders surface. Why does each victim suffer the same dreadful mutilations? Why are two of the victims priests? Is there a connection between these crimes and another series of murders that took place 12 years ago - and supposedly ended with the death of the killer?

Legion is a novel of breathtaking energy and suspense. But more than this, it is an extraordinary journey into the uncharted depths of the human mind and the most agonizing questions of the human condition.

The answers are revealed in a climax so stunning that it could only have been written by the author of The Exorcist - William Peter Blatty.

Good

Enjoyed this, it's not a very good story. If you are looking for a sequel then you might be disappointed. If you like Blattys style then you will love it 😙

Only okay

This is nowhere near as good as The Exorcist. Far too slow at the start, with the author focusing more on the philosophy and meaning of life - which is fine if that is what you want. When it does get going it still heads off down those tangents.

Okay to listen to passively as an audiobook on my commute. I suspect I wouldn't have finished it had I been reading it as a regular read.

Unusual but interesting

It's a bit of a reflection on existence and reality of God, good and evil, wrapped in a thin murder mystery. All ends a bit suddenly and conveniently when it was getting a bit out of hand.

Excellent!

A brilliant sequel to The Exorcist, so so good! Kinderman is so quirky and witty, it's good to have him back.

Terrible Narration

Terrible narration - no change in characters voice, no emotion no build up. Ruined by narration

Very enjoyable - try it!

Compared far too often in the reviews to ‘The Exorcist’ & not allowed to stand on its own merits. Although Blatty’s style remains, the story is very different to that of this books predecessor. If you found the questioning of faith and ideas that arose around the less obvious parts of ‘The Exorcist’ you’ll get a kick out of this.

Mediocre.

It would have been maybe a more interesting story if the narrator didn’t sound so monotonous and boring.

Great sequel to a classic

Good suspense and prose, plot and narration also. The characters are also well developed and the whole book works on different levels, including the ontological questions that the main protagonist has throughout

Excellent follow up to The Exorcist

Had put off listening to this after first listening to Blatty narrate the exorcist. This could be enjoyed on its own but with characters spanning both books, it’s both a great continuation and an excellent stand alone story. Some very well crafted characters and a truly great story arch. I can’t recommend this enough.
