Summary
Glasgow 1953: a hard city at a hard time. The war may be over but the battle for the streets is just beginning, and shady investigator Lennox is the man in the middle.
The McGahern twins were on the way up until Tam, the brains of the outfit, becomes the victim of a vicious contract killing. Tam's brother Frankie turns to Lennox to find out who killed his twin. Lennox refuses. Later that night, Frankie turns up dead, and Lennox finds himself in the frame for murder.
The only way of proving his innocence is to solve the crime - but he'll have to dodge men more deadly than Glasgow's crime bosses before he gets any answers.

Great Story
Having read a numbr of Russel's books I am pleased to say that this again does not dissapoint. A well told story with enough depth to keep your interest right through to the end.
The ending is somewhat bitter sweet (if a bloodbath story like this can have any sweetness at all), and will keep you hooked right through. Characterisations are good and more to the point believable.
Keep 'em coming is all I can say.

Glasgow warts and nothing else!
Evocative of a Glasgow past and mythical. A Glasgow of hard men and tough lives. A Glasgow improved by 1950s B-movies and American pulp fiction but a great story, well told, well narrated and well worth your time.

The first book
This book I have just found, as I have already read the others first by mistake. I found this was every bit as good as all of prevues ones ,I will missed both the writer and the narrator, who is brilliant I can't fault any of the books that i heard

My first but definitely not the last
This is the first of Russell's books that I've listened to and it definitely won't be the last. I chose it on the strength of the other reviews here and wasn't disappointed - so thank you all. There is nothing to add to earlier and more eloquent comments: it's an excellently-crafted story, brought superbly to life by Seán Barrett's narration and highly recommended.

Scotland's Sam Spade
Lennox is an enjoyable anachronism. Scotland is conjured up nicely with an interesting array of characters. Sean Barrett further demonstrates his excellent breadth of accents.

If you like Bernie Gunther you'll love this
Solid character, good pace, authentic feel of the fifties and Scotland...avoided most cliches and I'll definitely listen to the series.

A gripping listen
What did you like most about Lennox?
Excellent story line and well researched. Lennox is a fantastic character with a dry sense of humour and the book is well narrated by Sean Barrett.
