About this listen
USA Today and Wall Street Journal best seller
Learn how life can be enhanced, how a corporate culture can be changed, how a family can be united - by living the simple lessons of a third-grade dropout.
We live in an era of low expectations. In fact, we tend to celebrate low expectations. The way in which we choose to live and work today is a far cry from the purposeful living of our parents.
Have we reached the point in our society where it is more important to look good rather than be good? Has the pride in doing good work been replaced by self-entitlement, perfect offices, and slick suits?
This book reacquaints listeners with the wisdom - the common sense that was practiced simply and unwittingly by those who represent a generation gone by:
- A generation that worked hard without complaining
- A generation that did whatever was necessary to support their families
- A generation that took pride in doing a good job
- A generation that had high expectations for themselves and the others they were responsible for
One such member of this generation was a third-grade dropout, a man who never hid behind any excuse. A man who never allowed his problems or lack of a formal education to determine his present or affect his future. A man who realized that destiny was a choice and not a chance.
This book communicates lessons from that man’s life - the kind of wisdom that is rare in society today. It’s the kind of wisdom that will help you be a better person, a greater leader, a more effective worker.
That man was Rick Rigsby’s father, and this book contains his impactful, far-reaching story - of how a life can be enhanced, of how a corporate culture can be changed, of how a family can be united - by living the simple lessons of a third-grade dropout.

Short but straight to the point!
This man is one of my all time heros and inspirations!
It’s so refreshing to hear him dive into detail of his life and what effected the path of his life, talking about family, the death of his wife, his children, father, life lessons and wisdom!
I encourage all to listen to this one! 🤘🏻

Time to reflect and learn
Reflection that our generation has to make and learn from the previous generation.
We have forgotten the allegiance with discipline and have instead embraced convenience.

Preach, Sermonising or Teaching?
I think it has wisdom but I think it went to the same swishing tree to bark its wisdom. I wished for more ripples of laughter to intercede this melancholy tale.. To laugh at the donkey's tale of my life. To see the swish and laugh with. it,..

Meandering
So last week I saw a speech by the author on YouTube and it was funny, engaging and insightful. I subsequently saw he had an audiobook and got excited. This was a colossal waste of three hours of your life. It is filled with him repeating the same stories over and over again (such as if he parents said jump, he’d say how how, is repeated several times) and it is remarkably tedious as he lambasts people who name-drop, only to constantly do it himself throughout the runtime. Seriously, don’t waste your time and/or money

A message stretch out
Although I like the messages delivered in this audiobook, I could have been told in half the time. The author goes on and on before getting to the next advise. I did put in 4 stars in performance, but that is not for a good delivery of the message, but that his voice is pleasant to listen to. I do not recommend this book. Too little take away, and although the audio is on the short side, it should have been a lot shorter.
