From award-winning author Jane Casey comes a powerful crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final page…

A murder without a body
Eighteen-year-old Chloe Emery returns to her West London home one day to find the house covered in blood and Kate, her mother, gone. There may not be a body, but everything else points to murder.

A girl too scared to talk
Maeve Kerrigan is young, ambitious and determined to prove she’s up to her new role as detective sergeant. She suspects Chloe is holding something back, but best friend Bethany Norris won’t let Maeve get close. What exactly is Bethany protecting Chloe from?

A detective with everything to prove
As the team dig deeper into the residents of Valerian Road, no one is above suspicion. All Maeve needs is one person to talk, but that’s not going to happen. Because even in a case of murder, some secrets are too terrible to share…

"Casey is a true craftswoman, a writer who beguiles one through the most twisted of plots with a confident and seductive hand. Let the Dead Speak is sharp, complex and gripping to the very end." (Alex Marwood, best-selling author of Wicked Girls and The Killer Next Door)

Another brilliant book in a fab series

Jane Casey can do no wrong in my eyes. This is one of my favourite series, and I love Maeve Kerrigan.
She is now a DS and is called to a house where there is blood everywhere but no body. Once again Maeve is working with Josh Derwent (I would like to see them get together!), but also has to supervise a new DC who gets on her nerves right from the start!

The storyline is complex, well plotted, and had me hooked from the start. The pace was quick, the building tension kept me listening long past my bedtime, and there were plenty of twists. As with all the books in this series the characters are all really well fleshed out although most of the ones in this book are truly horrible (apart from the lovely Maeve and Derwent).

As always, the narration by Caroline Lennon was perfect.

The best in this series so far. Brilliant!

Which character – as performed by Caroline Lennon – was your favourite?

The narration was excellent, as is always the case with Caroline Lennon. Each character was voiced perfectly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! It was hard to put down.

Any additional comments?

This is a fabulous, engrossing read/listen. The strory is rich with layers and twists. The characters are wonderfully drawn, and very engaging as always. Maeve and Josh are on great form. The author did play a little fast and loose with clinical confidentiality (a Psychologist talking openly about the case of a live, discharged patient, to Police Officers who call in for a chat, with no Court Order), and the Data Protection Act (bank giving detailed information about a personal account, simply in reponse to a Police Officer asking)! However, although this would have grated in a book of lesser quality, I was instantly ready to suspend disbelief, due to how much I was enjoying the story.

I just love this series

What can I say, I am addicted to this series and always waiting for the next one in the series.
I enjoy the narration and as usual the story had me not wanting to stop listening.

I have enjoyed the development of Maeve Kerrigan's character throughout the series although she is perhaps the most unfortunate officer the Guarde have ever had. :)

It does get a bit gruesome in places and I have to admit I sometimes fast forward a little in any scenes that might get upsetting to a dog lover like myself.
If you are easily offended or upset by rather graphic descriptions this series is probably not for you.

As always I cannot wait for the next one...

crank the speed up and it's a great book!

I started off feeling very bored and disconnected from the book. Not because the story was bad but because the pace was so slow. I've never heard a narrator read so slowly! However, after cranking the speed up to 1.4 I flew through the book and loved the pace. The plot is very cleverly thought out and the tangled web of characters is very interesting. This is my first Jane Casey novel but it won't be my last!

Another great Kerrigan book

Where does Let the Dead Speak: A Maeve Kerrigan crime thriller rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If you've read or listened to the previous Maeve Kerrigan books, this one won't disappoint. The plot is good, and the relationship between Kerrigan and Derwent continues to deepen. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Best of the lot- so far!

Really liking these crime thrillers. Although I’d be more than happy if Audible stopped telling me what they were every time I restarted the book. But that’s not the novelists fault. Enjoyed every part of this - the general plotting, the narration and accents, and the overall character development. Although sometimes this Maeve acts more like a DCI rather than the Sergeant she is in this. But where would the story be without that?

Would highly recommend.
