About this listen

In the darkest parts of the City of Light, Eva Scott is searching for her brother's killers. She is caught up in a tangle of deception he left behind, facing violent assault, brutal murderers and deeply embedded corporate corruption.

At the heart of it is a dirty biotech business making a lethal profit from compromising human health. Behind that, an organisation with a devastating viral blackmail tool. Their targets? Global power, capital and manipulation. And Eva.

Alex Blackmore gained an LLB and LPC in Law at Nottingham University and went on to practice as a finance lawyer in the City. After five years in the world of corporate finance and banking, she moved into legal and financial writing and editing before becoming a freelancer full time. She runs a copywriting business and a fashion retail website championing new designers, and lives in North London.

Good story spoiled

It was a good story, but ruined for me by the use of the word suddenly in almost every sentence of the most exciting parts

Total nonsense, but fun

The story was a little too sub James Bond, mad world domination, and the heroine had way too many brushes with death. But it was fun and easy way to pass a few hours. Would have benefited from a more involved narrator. Sometimes felt like an exercise in pronunciation not a thriller

Intriguing

Great idea for a story; kept my interest throughout. Likeable characters. Great narration. Reasonably swift in pace. Was a bit disappointed by the ending but I suppose it leaves it open for another book. Would recommend.

Lethal Profit

I really enjoyed this book and the way it was read.
The plot was uncanny with what has happened with pandemic and gave food for thought.
It was quite long but all the avenues were explained and you did not feel as in so many books cheated at the end .

Chaotic overkill

The narrative lurches from one implausible “action” scene to the next. It felt like the storyboard for a b-grade video. The account of an algal infestation alongside a toxic virus was a long way from biological reality and the characters were equally unbelievable. I kept listening in the hope of a resolution but was ultimately disapppointed

Average

The story and narrator were ok. The lead character was a little irritating and overly naive

fun and engaging

love inmogen church narration for thrillers no sudden shouting and no clacky mouth noises. story was engaging and fast paced, leave some disbelief behind and it's a fun ride

Good story but needed a better editor

Gripping storyline but with excessive repetition and vocab. Performance a bit slow. A better edotor would have made a big difference

too much too much .

Well written with lots of close combat action by the female lead and too many subplots and unanswered questions for this reader. I did not find myself wanting to spend any more time in the heroines career.
